Biopharmaceuticals manufacturing is a critical component of the modern healthcare system, with emerging new treatments composed of increasingly complex biomolecules offering solutions to chronic and debilitating disorders. While this sector continues to grow, it strongly exhibits "boom-to-bust" performance which threatens its long-term viability. Future trends within the industry indicate a shift towards continuous production systems using single use technologies that raises sustainability issues, yet research in this area is sparse and lacks consideration of the complex interactions between environmental, social and economic concerns. The authors outline a sustainability-focused vision and propose opportunities for research to aid the development of a more integrated approach that would enhance the sustainability of the industry.

Defined by the World Health Organization (WHO) as indigenous knowledge and practices used for maintaining health and treating illnesses, traditional medicine (TM) represents a rich reservoir of ancient healing practices rooted in cultural traditions and accumulated wisdom over centuries. Five indigenous Kenyan plant species traditionally used in African TM, named Afzelia quanzensis, Azadirachta indica, Gigasiphon macrosiphon, Grewia bicolor, and Lannea schweinfurthii, represent a valuable resource in healing practices, yet their chemical composition and bioactivity remain understudied. To depict a primary bio-chemical characterization of these plants, their antioxidant and antimicrobial features have been evaluated by the use of methods validated in this context.

In this study, genipin served as crosslinker to combine sodium caseinate (SC) and chitosan oligosaccharide (COS), aiming to improve the physicochemical properties and encapsulation efficiency of SC in delivering hydrophobic nutritional factors. The genipin crosslinked complex of SC and COS (GSCC) was characterized by circular dichroism spectrum and infrared spectrum analyses. Nanoparticles produced from GSCC (GSCCNP) exhibited a superior hydrophilicity compared to those derived from SC (SCNP).

Endometriosis is a chronic condition with limited therapeutic options. The molecular aberrations promoting ectopic attachment and interactions with the local microenvironment sustaining lesion growth have been unclear, prohibiting development of targeted therapies. Here, we performed single-cell and spatial transcriptomic profiling of ectopic lesions and eutopic endometrium in endometriosis.

Biowaste produced in urban parks is composed of large masses of organic matter that is only occasionally used economically. In this work, extracts of six plants widely distributed in urban parks in Central Europe (, , , , , and ), prepared using 10 % and 50 % ethanol, were screened for their antidiabetic and related properties. HPLC and UV-Vis analysis revealed the presence of caffeic acid, quercetin, luteolin, and apigenin derivatives.

Exploring spatial distributions and determinants of full pentavalent vaccination status in minor ecological areas in Ethiopia is crucial for creating targeted immunization campaigns and monitoring the advancement of accomplishing sustainable development goals. This study aimed to investigate the spatial disparities and determinants of full pentavalent vaccination among 12-23-month-old children in Ethiopia.
