: To investigate the effect of acupoint massage on the recovery of gastrointestinal function in patients after laparoscopic surgery for gynecologic indications. A total of 160 patients, who underwent gynecologic laparoscopy from December 2015 to January 2017, were recruited. Half of the patients received standard postoperative nursing (i.e., the control group); while the other half received acupoint massage in addition to the standard care (i.e., the observation group). The recovery time of bowel sounds, the first anal exhaust time and the first defecation time were recorded. The plasma levels of motilin, somatostatin and cholecystokinin before and after the surgery were also determined. Compared to the control group, the observation group demonstrated significantly shorter bowel sound recovery time, first anal exhaust time and first defecation time ( = 11.755, 10.400, 11.950,  < 0.01 for all comparisons). Before surgery, the plasma levels of gastrointestinal hormones in both groups were comparable. At 12, 24, and 48 hours postoperative, the difference between two groups was statistically significant ( < 0.05). The overall response rate of the observation group was also significantly higher than that of the control group (control group, 78.75%; observation group, 97.50%;  = 0.008). Acupoint massage could accelerate the recovery of bowel function after gynecologic laparoscopy by modulating the release of gastrointestinal hormones.

Introduction: Health education, weight control and exercise therapy are recognised treatment options for the non-surgical management of knee osteoarthritis (KOA); however, the pain and muscle fatigue associated with exercise make it difficult for patients to initially adhere. Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) massage is an important complementary and alternative therapy that can effectively address these deficiencies. According to TCM theory and preliminary clinical practice, loosening of the muscles while pointing to acupoints can promote the recovery of KOA.

Background: Diabetes has emerged as the foremost public health challenge of the 21st century, with a notable shift towards managing it through an inflammatory lens. This study seeks to investigate the role of NLRP3 infalmmasome in diabetes over the past ten years, leveraging bibliometric analysis to pinpoint prevailing trends, underscore critical focal points, and establish a roadmap for subsequent research endeavors.

Method: A literature search was conducted based on the SCI-E database, and all recorded results were downloaded in plain text format for subsequent analysis.

Objective: Acupuncture therapies are known for their effectiveness in treating a variety of gastric diseases, although the mechanisms underlying these effects are not fully understood. This study tested the effectiveness of electroacupuncture (EA) at acupoints Zhongwan (RN12) and Weishu (BL21) for managing gastric motility disorder (GMD) and investigated the underlying mechanisms involved.

Methods: A GMD model was used to evaluate the impact of EA on various aspects of gastric function including the amplitude of gastric motility, electrogastrogram, food intake, and the rate of gastric emptying.

Background: Transcutaneous electrical acupoint stimulation (TEAS) is an innovative, non-invasive therapy that stimulates the contraction of paralyzed muscles in the upper limbs, promoting functional recovery. Several studies have demonstrated the efficacy of TEAS in restoring upper limb function. This study aims to evaluate the impact of TEAS on upper limb motor recovery after stroke.
