The band structure of the dilute-As GaNAs material is explained by the hybridization of localized As-impurity states with the valance band structure of GaN. Our approach employs the use of Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculated band structures, along with experimental results, to determine the localized As-impurity energy level and coupling parameters in the band anti-crossing (BAC) k ∙ p model for N-rich alloys. This model captures the reduction of bandgap with increasing arsenic incorporation and provides a tool for device-level design with the material within the context of the k ∙ p formalism. The analysis extends to calculating the effect of the arsenic impurities on hole (heavy, light and split-off) effective masses and predicting the trend of the bandgap across the entire composition range.

In the fields of optics and photonics, the topic of light-matter interactions, particularly strong coupling effects, is a developing area of research. Exciton polariton, a hybridized state brought about by strong coupling, is a hot topic, especially from the standpoint of chiral optics. Under the incidence of right circularly polarized light and left circularly polarized (RCP and LCP) light, we investigate the strong coupling between excitons and quasibound states in the continuum (Q-BICs) resonance in a bulk WS metasurface.

Metamaterial perfect absorbers (MPAs) show great potential in achieving exceptional sensing performance, particularly in the realm of surface-enhanced infrared absorption (SEIRA) spectroscopy. To this aim, it is highly desirable for the localized hotspots to be readily exposed and accessible to analyte with strong mode confinement to enhance absorption. Here, we propose a quasi-three-dimensional MPA based on cross-shaped coupled complementary plasmonic arrays for highly sensitive refractive index sensing and molecular vibrational sensing.

Magneto-optical spectroscopy on Weyl nodes for anomalous and topological Hall effects in chiral MnGe.

Physics of Weyl electrons has been attracting considerable interests and further accelerated by recent discoveries of giant anomalous Hall effect (AHE) and topological Hall effect (THE) in several magnetic systems including non-coplanar magnets with spin chirality or small-size skyrmions. These AHEs/THEs are often attributed to the intense Berry curvature generated around the Weyl nodes accompanied by band anti-crossings, yet the direct experimental evidence still remains elusive. Here, we demonstrate an essential role of the band anti-crossing for the giant AHE and THE in MnGe thin film by using the terahertz magneto-optical spectroscopy.

We theoretically study the plasmonic coupling between magnetic plasmon resonances (MPRs) and propagating surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs) in a three-dimensional (3D) metamaterial consisting of vertical Au split-ring resonators (VSRRs) array on Au substrate. By placing the VSRRs directly onto the Au substrate to remove the dielectric substrates effect, the interaction between MPRs of VSRRs and the SPP mode on the Au substrate can generate an ultranarrow-band hybrid mode with full width at half maximum () of 2.2 nm and significantly enhanced magnetic fields, compared to that of VSRRs on dielectric substrates.

Manipulating the strong light-matter coupling interaction in optical microresonators that are naturally formed by semiconductor micro- or nanostructures is crucial for fabricating high-performance exciton-polariton devices. Such devices can function as coherent light sources having considerably lower emission threshold. In this study, an exciton-polariton light-emitting diode (LED), made of a single ZnO microwire (MW) and a p-GaN substrate, serving as the hole injector, was fabricated, and its working characteristics, in the near-ultraviolet region, were demonstrated.
