Published: October 1982

Saturated aliphatic acids (C to C) and n-alkyl formate, acetate, propionate and butyrate esters (C to C) were evaluated to determine the minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) necessary to inhibit the growth of Clostridium botulinum 62A in a bacteriological medium. The C to C and C to C acids and esters were relatively inactive (MIC > 200 μg/ml). The C to C acids exhibited some antibotulinal acitivity (MIC = 100 μg/ml), whereas C to C esters were substantially more inhibitory. The n-alkyl formates, acetates and propionates having C to C groups gave the highest inhibition, with MIC's of 3.1, 6.3 and 6.3 μg/ml, respectively. The maximum inhibition for the butyrates (MIC = 12.4 μg/ml) was associated with C to C alkyl groups. A mathematical relationship between activity and alkyl group chain length was derived.

What Is Already Known About This Topic?: Foodborne botulism is caused by botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT). () is a strictly anaerobic, Gram-positive bacterium, which is a key pathogen capable of producing BoNT. BoNTs can be classified into seven serotypes (A to G) based on their antigenic properties.

Tetanus neurotoxins (TeNT) and botulinum neurotoxins (BoNTs) are closely related ~150 kDa protein toxins that together comprise the group of clostridial neurotoxins (CNTs) expressed by various species of . While TeNT is expressed as a single polypeptide, BoNTs are always produced alongside multiple non-toxic proteins that form a stabilizing complex with BoNT and are encoded in a conserved toxin gene cluster. It is unknown how evolved without a similar gene cluster and why complex-free TeNT is secreted as a stable and soluble protein by , whereas complexing proteins appear to be essential for BoNT stability in culture supernatants of .

Botulinum neurotoxin, produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, causes botulism, a severe, rapidly progressing, and potentially fatal condition. Swift detection of the toxin and timely administration of antitoxin antibodies are critical for effective treatment. The current standard for Botulinum toxin testing is the mouse lethality assay, but this method is time-consuming and requires live animals.

Our study aims to assess the thermal inactivation of non-proteolytic type B spores in a plant-based fish and to evaluate the potential of alternative heat treatments at temperatures below the safe harbor guidelines established for vacuum-packed chilled products of extended durability. First, the heat resistance of the spore suspension was determined using capillary tubes in potassium phosphate buffer at 80°C. The D value was estimated to be 0.

Background: breast cancer-associated fibroblast (CAF) is linked to metastasis and is poor for breast cancer prognosis. Since Clostridium Toxin A (Botox-A) had represented a cytotoxic effect on fibroblasts, this study aims to assess Botox-A cytotoxicity in both normal fibroblasts and exosome-induced CAFs.

Material And Method: the serum exosomes of 40 BC patients and 30 healthy individuals were isolated and lncRNA H19 (lnch19) levels were assessed by qRT-PCR method.
