Lipid accumulation is largely investigated due to its role in many human diseases. The attention is mainly focused on the lipid droplets (LDs), spherical cytoplasmic organelles, which are devoted to the storage of the lipids. The amount of lipid content is often evaluated by measuring LDs size and/or the integrated optical density (IOD) in cultured cells. Both evaluations are directly associated to the lipid content and therefore they are correlated to each other, but a lack of theoretical relationship between size and IOD was observed in literature. Here we investigated the size-IOD relationship of LDs observed in microscopical images of cultured cells. The experimental data were obtained from immature and differentiated 3T3-L1 murine cells, which have been extensively used in studies on adipogenesis. A simple model based on the spherical shape of the LDs and the Lambert-Beer law, which describes the light absorption by an optical thick material, leads to a mathematical relationship. Despite only light rays' absorption was considered in the model, neglecting their scattering, a very good agreement between the theoretical curve and the experimental data was found. Moreover, a computational simulation corroborates the model indicating the validity of the mathematically theoretical relationship between size and IOD. The theoretical model could be used to calculate the absorption coefficient in the LDs population and it could be applied to seek for morphologically and functionally LDs subpopulations. The identification of LDs dynamic by measuring size and IOD could be related to different pathophysiological conditions and useful for understand cellular lipid-associated diseases.

Objectives: To evaluate the changes in nutritional status, chewing ability and oral health-related quality of life in edentulous individuals who have initially been rehabilitated with immediate complete dentures (CD) which are then transformed to implant-supported overdentures (IOD) after a period of osseointegration.
Background: Compared to those with conventional dentures, individuals with IODs exhibit improved patient-reported outcomes, chewing capacity and biting force. While prior research highlights differences in nutritional markers between these groups, there is limited investigation into intra-individual changes in nutritional status, chewing ability and oral health-related quality of life during the transition from CDs to IODs.

Aim: This is a report of the 5-year results of a two-group parallel randomized clinical trial comparing longitudinal implant stability, and clinical and radiographic peri-implant outcomes of mandibular overdentures retained by one (1-IOD group) or two (2-IOD group) implants.
Methods: All participants received 4.1 mm diameter tissue-level implants (Straumann Standard Plus - SLActive, Institut Straumann AG), installed in the mandible midline (1-IOD; n = 23) or the lateral incisor-canine area bilaterally (2-IOD; n = 24), and loaded after 3 weeks.

γ-valerolactone (GVL) is a key value-added chemical catalytically produced from levulinic acid (LA), an important biomass derivative platform chemical. Here an ultra-efficient 3D Ru catalyst generated by in situ reduction of RuZnO nanoboxes is reported; the catalyst features a well-defined structure of highly dispersed in situ oxide-derived Ru (IOD-Ru) clusters (≈1 nm in size) spatially confined within the 3D nanocages with rich mesopores, which guarantees a maximized atom utilization with a high exposure of Ru active sites as well as a 3D accessibility for substrate molecules. The IOD-Ru exhibits ultrahigh performance for the hydrogenation of LA into GVL with a record-breaking turnover frequency (TOF) up to 59400 h , 14 times higher than that of the ex situ reduction of RuZnO nanoboxes catalyst.

Arginine is the main amino acid that constitutes the sperm protamine of roosters, named galline, which complexes with sperm DNA, allowing high compaction of its chromatin. Arginine supplementation has positive effects on semen quality in aged roosters, but this supplementation is not known to limit the progressive worsening of sperm chromatin compaction. This work aimed to verify whether L-arginine supplementation in the feed improve or maintain sperm chromatin quality since aging in roosters is usually accompanied by worsening chromatin quality.
