The heartwood of (), named "Jiang Xiang" in traditional Chinese medicine, is highly valuable. Mechanical wounding induced the production of "Jiang Xiang" in Ethylene and hydrogen peroxide (HO) are proposed to play vital roles in wound signaling. However, little is known about the role of ethylene or HO in the wound-induced formation of vessel occlusions and biosynthesis of "Jiang Xiang" in . In this study, the pruning of saplings resulted in the synergistic biosynthesis of biphasic ethylene and HO, which was followed by formation of vessel occlusions and "Jiang Xiang" in the pruned stems. In this process, the HO production stimulated higher biosynthesis of ethylene. Treatments with aminoethoxyvinylglycine (AVG), an inhibitor for ethylene biosynthesis and ascorbate acid (AsA), a scavenger of HO, markedly reduced the production of ethylene and HO, respectively, and the corresponding the percentage of vessels with occlusions (PVO), oil content, and the amount of "Jiang Xiang" formed. These results indicate that ethylene and HO might be important wound signals in that induce vessel occlusions and formation of "Jiang Xiang," and thus ethylene and HO might play vital roles in "Jiang Xiang" formation in pruned stems of .

Article Synopsis
  • Immune checkpoint inhibitors can effectively treat various cancers, but not all patients respond, with high tumor mutational burden (TMB) being a predictor of success.
  • This study explored the relationship between MHC-I-dependent neoantigen presentation and immune characteristics across 33 cancer types to enhance predictive capabilities beyond TMB.
  • Findings showed that combining TMB with factors like HLA-A expression and CD8+ T cell fraction significantly improved prediction accuracy for responses to PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors, suggesting a more integrated approach could optimize personalized immunotherapy strategies.

Objectives: This study explored the clinical prognosis and lipidomics of hepatitis B virus steatohepatitic hepatocellular carcinoma (HBV-SHHCC) and aimed to identify a noninvasive and convenient method to diagnose this phenotype and guide treatment using MRI.

Methods: A total of 433 HBV-infected HCC patients were enrolled in this retrospective study. Survival data were analyzed using Cox regression analyses, and lipidomics was used to study HCC tissue composition.

Rationale And Objectives: Non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) is highly recurrent, with each recurrence potentially progressing to muscle-invasive cancer, affecting patient prognosis. Intratumoral heterogeneity plays a crucial role in NMIBC recurrence. This study investigated a novel habitat-based radiomic analysis for stratifying NMIBC recurrence risk.

Objectives: Cerebral ultrasound (CUS) is the main imaging screening tool in preterm infants. The aim of this work is to develop deep learning (DL) models that classify normal vs abnormal CUS to serve as a computer-aided detection tool providing timely interpretation of the scans.

Methods: A population-based cohort of very preterm infants (22-30 weeks) born between 2004 and 2016 in Nova Scotia, Canada.

Objectives: The routine biomarkers for rheumatoid arthritis (RA), including anticyclic citrullinated peptide antibody (anti-CCP), rheumatoid factor (RF), immunoglobulin M (IgM), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and C-reaction protein (CRP) have limited sensitivity and specificity. Scavenger receptor-A (SR-A) is a novel RA biomarker identified by our group recently, especially for seronegative RA. Here, we performed a large-scale multicentre study to further assess the diagnostic value of SR-A in combination with other biomarkers for RA.
