A set of chitosan/ε-polylysine (ε-PL) bionanocomposite films were prepared by a simple in situ self-assembly technique using sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) as cross-linking agent. The physical, mechanical, structural, and antimicrobial properties of these films were investigated. Fourier infrared spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction showed that the introduction of TPP promoted the formation of hydrogen bonds and electrostatic interactions among functional groups of chitosan or ε-PL, which improved the tensile strength and decreased the water solubility, water vapor permeability and surface wettability of films. On the other hand, the incorporation of ε-PL weakened the bionanocomposite film' structure and integrity, resulting in a decrease trend of films' mechanical and barrier properties. More importantly, the bionanocomposite films exhibited excellent antimicrobial efficacy against E. coli and S. aureus by the increasing ratio of ε-PL. And ε-PL presented a sustained release from the films, which was closely related to TPP concentration. Results of this study suggested that chitosan/ε-PL films could be used as antimicrobial bio-material and have great potential in food industry.

Coordination-driven metallo-supramolecular polymers hold significant potential as highly efficient catalysts for photocatalytic CO reduction, owing to the covalent integration of the light harvesting unit, catalytic center and intrinsic hierarchical nanostructures. In this study, we present the synthesis, characterization, and gelation behaviour of a novel low molecular weight gelator (LMWG) integrating a benzo[1,2-:4,5-']dithiophene core with terpyridine (TPY) units alkyl amide chains (TPY-BDT). The two TPY ends of the TPY-BDT unit efficiently chelate with metal ions, enabling the formation of a metallo-supramolecular polymer that brings together the catalytic center and a photosensitizer in close proximity, maximizing catalytic efficiency for CO reduction.

Cota is a lipidated dual GLP-1 and Glucagon receptor agonist that was investigated for the treatment of various metabolic diseases, it is designed for once daily subcutaneous administration. Invasive daily injections often result in poor patient compliance with chronic disease, and here, we demonstrate an innovative strategy of encapsulating reversible cota self-assembled fibers within an in-situ forming depot of low molecular weight poly(lactic-co-glycolic) acid (LWPLGA) for sustained delivery GLP-1 and Glucagon receptor agonist with controlled burst release. This could be a suitable alternative to other sustained delivery strategies for fibrillating peptides.

Innovating nanocatalysts with both high intrinsic catalytic activity and high selectivity is crucial for multi-electron reactions, however, their low mass/electron transport at industrial-level currents is often overlooked, which usually leads to low comprehensive performance at the device level. Herein, a Cl/O etching-assisted self-assembly strategy is reported for synthesizing a self-assembled gap-rich PdMn nanofibers with high mass/electron transport highway for greatly enhancing the electrocatalytic reforming of waste plastics at industrial-level currents. The self-assembled PdMn nanofiber shows excellent catalytic activity in upcycling waste plastics into glycolic acid, with a high current density of 223 mA cm@0.

Enzyme-instructed self-assembly (EISA) is a promising approach to anti-cancer therapeutics due to its precise targeting and unique cell death mechanism. In this study, we introduce a small molecule, DN6, which undergoes nitroreductase (NTR)-responsive liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) followed by a liquid-to-solid phase transition (LST) through a gel-like intermediate state, resulting in the formation of nanoaggregates with spatiotemporal control. The reduced form of DN6 (DN6R), owing to its aggregation-induced emission (AIE) and mitochondria-targeting capabilities, has been employed for organelle-specific imaging of tumor hypoxia.

Nitrogen heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are emerging as effective substitutes for conventional thiol ligands in surface functionalization of nanoparticles (NPs), offering exceptional stability to NPs under harsh conditions. However, the highly reactive feature of NHCs limits their use in introducing chemically active groups onto the NP surface. Herein, we develop a general yet robust strategy for the efficient surface functionalization of NPs with copolymer ligands bearing various functional groups.
