To guide clinical blood transfusion practices for pediatric patients, the National Health Commission has issued the health standard "Guideline for pediatric transfusion" (WS/T 795-2022). Blood transfusion is one of the most commonly used supportive treatments for children with hematological diseases. This guideline provides guidance and recommendations for blood transfusions in children with aplastic anemia, thalassemia, autoimmune hemolytic anemia, glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency, acute leukemia, myelodysplastic syndromes, immune thrombocytopenic purpura, and thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura.

Ruminant-dense environments increase risk of reported Shiga toxin-producing infections independently of ruminant contact.

Division of Environmental Health Sciences, School of Public Health, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA.

Cattle and other domestic ruminants are the primary reservoirs of O157 and non-O157 Shiga toxin-producing (STEC). Living in areas with high ruminant density has been associated with excess risk of infection, which could be due to both direct ruminant contact and residual environmental risk, but the role of each is unclear. We investigated whether there is any meaningful risk to individuals living in ruminant-dense areas if they do not have direct contact with ruminants.

Background: Ecthyma is a deeper form of impetigo involving the epidermis and dermis causing ulcerative plaques. Pathogens commonly responsible for the disease (group A beta-hemolytic streptococcus and Staphylococcus aureus) typically afflicts children, presenting during early stages with skin lesions that can closely resemble other vesicular and ulcerative dermatoses, such as those observed in mpox infection. The ongoing global outbreak of monkeypox has escalated the urgency for clinicians to accurately differentiate between these conditions due to their overlapping dermatological manifestations.

Introduction: Thrombotic microangiopathies (TMA) represent distinct pathological and clinical entities with known chronicity and recurrence. Kidney biopsy is the gold standard to diagnose TMA in patients with renal manifestations but the prognostic significance of acute or chronic phase of the disease has not been well studied. We examined the clinical characteristics, management, and predictors of acute vs.

Background: Alloantibodies for the Rh blood group are the most immunogenic antibodies found in the Chinese population, typically causing acute or delayed hemolytic transfusion reactions and fetal and neonatal hemolytic diseases. Autoantibodies are generally considered nonspecific, and approximately 50% of warm antibodies are secondary to a variety of diseases, especially hematologic tumors. In this case report, a rare autoantibody that mimics anti-C and anti-e specificity was identified.
