To investigate the genetic polymorphisms of 19 STR loci in the Teochew population of Chaozhou. Nineteen STR loci of 631 unrelated Teochew people in Chaozhou were detected by using the AGCU Expressmarker 20 kit. The allele frequency ranged from 0.0008-0.5577. The combined power of discrimination and combined probability of excluding paternity is over 0.999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999,999 and 0.999,999,992,549,546, respectively. The principal component analysis based on the 11 shared STR loci showed the Teochew population was most genetically related to the Fujian Han population. The results demonstrate the set of 19 autosomal STRs could provide robust genetics information for individual identification, paternity testing and human genetics research in the Teochew population.

The purpose of this study was to assess the dietary consumption patterns of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) among the population in Guangdong province. Employing a cross-sectional design, the survey was conducted from 2019 to 2021 to examine the inclusion of TCM in the diet of participants in Guangdong province. Information regarding consumption of TCM during the preceding 12 months was collected using a food frequency questionnaire.

Objective: To describe whether or not there are gender differences in lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) prevalence and risk factors in community-dwelling older Chinese Americans.

Methods: We performed a secondary analysis of a prospective cross-sectional population-based survey of Chinese Americans aged 60 years and older between January 2011 and December 2013 in English, Mandarin, Cantonese, Taishanese, or Teochew. A clinical review of systems was used to assess LUTS, which included urinary frequency, urgency, burning and/or pain, blood in urine, and urinary incontinence.

Background: X chromosomeshort tandem repeat (X-STR) loci are playing an increasingly important role inforensic work, identifying female traces in male contamination and explainingcomplex kinship analyses.

Methods: In this study, we analyzed thegenetic polymorphism of 19 X-STR loci in the Guangdong Hakka, Teochew and Cantonese groups, respectively, aswell as in the Guangdong Hakka, Teochew andCantonese pooled Han. The genetic diversity and forensic characteristics of the19 X-STRs and 7 linkage groups were investigated, respectively.

Left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH) caused by cardiac variant Fabry disease (FD) is typically late-onset and may mimic LVH caused by abnormal loading conditions. We aimed to determine the prevalence of FD in a non-selective patient population of everyday practice presenting with LVH, including those with hypertension and valve disease. We measured plasma alpha-galactosidase A activity using dried blood spot tests in 499 (age = 66 ± 13 years; 336 men) Hong Kong Chinese patients with LVH defined as maximal LV septal/posterior wall thickness ≥13 mm on echocardiography.
