The rapid development in agriculture and industrial sectors has raised some serious global issues like heavy metals pollution of water resources. Cadmium (Cd) is amongst the major water pollutants worldwide. In this study, two novel sorbents were prepared by using post-consumer textile waste (PCTW).

Nitrogen (N2) has long been considered as stable atmospheric reservoir for N element and has a persistence time of hundreds of years. This study reveals that oxygen (O2) at typical tropospheric concentrations can rapidly activate N2, leading to substantial production of nitrous oxide (N2O), the third most impactful greenhouse gas, at rates approaching 2.83 ± 0.

Wastewater ozonation is commonly employed to enhance the subsequent biodegradation of effluent organic matter (EfOM) and contaminants of concern. However, there is evidence suggesting the formation of recalcitrant ozonation products (OPs) from EfOM. To investigate the biodegradability of OPs we conducted batch biodegradation experiments using wastewater effluent ozonated with mass-labeled (O) ozone.

The selective oxidation of NH-N into dinitrogen (N) is still a challenge. Currently, traditional advanced oxidation processes often involve in the chlorine free radicals to increase the selectivity of NH-N oxidation products towards N but is usually accompanied by the production of many toxic disinfection by-product. Herein, we reported a novel catalytic ozonation system (UV/O/MgO/NaSO) for selective NH-N oxidation based on the reducing capability and photochemical properties of NaSO.

The proliferation and chlorine resistance of pathogenic bacteria in drinking water distribution systems (DWDSs) pose a serious threat to human health. In this study, the synergistic effects of ozonation pretreatment and trace phosphate on water quality health risk and microbial stability were investigated in the small-scale DWDSs simulated by biofilms annular reactors with cast iron coupons. The results indicated that ozonation of drinking water containing trace phosphate was equivalent to increasing microbial carbon and phosphorus sources, further leading to the rapid proliferation of opportunistic pathogens (OPs) in subsequent DWDSs.
