The influence of the hypertonic (3%) solution of mannitol on the process of the excitability recovery (in the near necrotic zone) appeared as a result of the necroses tissue effect on the ventricle has been investigated in the experiments on the isolated frog's heart. The analogous perfusion was conducted by Ringer solution in the control experiments. The process of isopotential phase S-T recovery was practically the same at heart perfusion with Ringer solution or with mannitol. Simultaneous registration of ventricular mechanogram showed the pronounced negative inotropic effect of mannitol. It is suggested that the positive effect of mannitol which has been noted under clinic conditions during the treatment of ischemic disease, doesn't connect with the effect of hypertonic solution on the cells excitability of periinfarcted (near necrotic) zone.

The 2024 European Society of Intensive Care Medicine clinical practice guideline provide clinicians with evidence-based recommendations on intravenous fluid in critically ill adults across a range of common conditions. These guidelines aim to improve the practices of fluid therapy by adopting a global perspective that considers both clinical efficacy and resource utilization in diverse healthcare settings. The guidelines address three key questions: (1) albumin versus crystalloids, (2) balanced crystalloids versus isotonic saline, and (3) small-volume hypertonic solutions versus isotonic crystalloids.

A hypertonic solution of Ibuprofen (Ibu) was designed to nebulize, associating a low concentration of Ibu with L-Arginine (AR), to increase solubility and serve as a nitric oxide donor. To provide preclinical research human bronchial epithelial cells derived from a cystic fibrosis patient homozygous for the ΔF508 CFTR mutation (CFBE41o-) and mouse RAW 264.7 macrophages were pre-treated with Ibu (10-100 μM), AR (20 and 200 μM), or the combination Ibu-AR (10-100 μM).

Purpose: To report a case of herpes simplex virus (HSV) endotheliitis inducing acute interface fluid syndrome in a patient with a remote history of laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK).
Methods: Case report and literature review.
Results: A 51-year-old man with a history of LASIK 16 years prior presented with unilateral HSV endotheliitis and was found to have acute interface fluid syndrome secondary to endothelial decompensation.

Introduction: Cellular characteristics of induced sputum (IS) are not investigated in cystic fibrosis (CF) patients.
Objectives: This pilot study, conducted on 17 expectorating CF adolescents, compared sputa obtained the same day, in a stable period, by autogenic drainage (expectorating sputum, ES) and 4 h later after inhaling hypertonic saline (IS).
Results: No difference was noted concerning weight, volume, and percentage of dead cells between the two collection methods.

Solid supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) serve as an excellent platform for biophysical studies. However, the formation of highly negatively charged SLBs on negatively charged surfaces remains a challenge due to electrostatic repulsion. Here, we study the effects of ionic strength and osmotic stress on the formation of highly negatively charged SLBs on the silica surface.
