A 40-year-old man presented with acute-onset painless visual loss after preoperative embolization for a large skull base meningioma through the ophthalmic artery. We describe the clinical presentation of an isolated ipsilateral afferent and efferent pupillary defect in this patient who had radiographic documentation of embolization material in the intraorbital ophthalmic artery. Although ophthalmic and retinal artery occlusions have been described previously after endovascular embolization, our patient had a unique clinicoradiologic presentation.

Objectives: To examine the relationship of ophthalmic artery (OA) Doppler indices with uterine artery (UtA) Doppler indices, selected maternal hemodynamic parameters and gestational age, and to evaluate the intraobserver reproducibility of OA Doppler indices.
Methods: This was a prospective cohort study of women recruited between 11 + 0 and 23 + 6 weeks' gestation using a stratified and random sampling approach to ensure adequate distribution across the gestational-age range. OA pulsatility index (PI), first peak systolic velocity (PSV1), second peak systolic velocity (PSV2) and peak systolic velocity ratio (PSV ratio), calculated as PSV2/PSV1, were measured twice in each eye by the same observer.

Objective: Surgeons routinely check the pupils to assess, in part, the brain stem function and the neural integrity of the visual system. Where a relative afferent pupillary defect is difficult to notice during surgery, an efferent pupillary defect or mydriasis is clearly recognizable. Visual loss in orbital surgery is attributed to compromised perfusion of the optic nerve, retina, or choroid, but an association with mydriasis is generally not assumed.

Background: There are significant discrepancies in the optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) reported in the literature. We aimed to determine the ultrasonographic imaging features of ONSD and ophthalmic vessels in a healthy population, using a standardized protocol, and to estimate the effect of demographics and positioning changes on imaging measurements.
Methods: We measured the mean values of the ONSD in supine and sitting position and the Doppler imaging parameters of the ophthalmic, central retinal and short posterior ciliary arteries.

This study was designed to dynamically observe visual function after returning to lowland and elucidate the underlying mechanism by examining the structure and function of retina and visual pathway. Retinal artery occlusion (RAO) is a critical ophthalmic emergency with a high risk of significant visual impairment. While traditional treatment aims to promptly restore blood flow to the retina, recent research has investigated the potential benefits of anticoagulation therapy for managing this condition. This paper reviews current literature and clinical trials investigating the efficacy and safety of anticoagulant and antiplatelet therapies, such as systemic heparinization and direct oral anticoagulants and aspirin, in treating RAO.
