Background/aim: The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) staging 8th edition introduced major changes in the TNM staging of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) based on the human papillomavirus (HPV) status. This study aimed to observe how well the AJCC staging 8 edition precisely discriminates survival outcomes in patients with HPV-associated OPSCC using a large population database.
Materials And Methods: Using the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database between 2010 and 2016, 7,448 patients with HPV-associated OPSCC were enrolled.

Purpose: Although the concept of extrapancreatic extension (EPEx) was removed in the eighth edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer pancreatic cancer staging system, several studies have supported the prognostic significance of EPEx. This study aimed to investigate the significance of EPEx in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) using the National Cancer Database (NCDB).
Methods: Data of patients who underwent resection for PDAC between 2006 and 2016 were extracted and analyzed from the NCDB.

Objectives: The eighth edition American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) Staging incorporates significant changes to the seventh edition in the staging of oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinomas (OPSCC). An important change was the inclusion of OPSCC associated with the human papilloma virus (HPV). Our goal is to compare the performance of both staging systems for patients with HPV-selected and unselected clinical characteristics for OPSCC.
