Efficient, practical, and nondestructive analysis of complex mixtures is vital in many branches of chemistry. Here we present a new type of NMR experiment that allows the study of very challenging intact mixtures, in which subspectra of individual components can be extracted when other NMR means fail, for the case of a single, intact, static (constant composition) sample. We demonstrate the new approach, SCALPEL (Spectral Component Acquisition by Localized PARAFAC Extraction of Linear components), on a natural fermented beverage, beer, and other carbohydrate mixtures, obtaining individual carbohydrate component subspectra. This new class of NMR experiment is based on dissecting the spectrum rather than the sample, using pulse sequences tailored to generate data suitable for powerful tensor decomposition methods to allow highly complex spectra to be analyzed stepwise, one small section at a time. It has the clear potential to attack problems beyond the reach of current methods.

Functional connectivity holds promise as a biomarker of schizophrenia. Yet, the high dimensionality of predictive models trained on functional connectomes, combined with small sample sizes in clinical research, increases the risk of overfitting. Recently, low-dimensional representations of the connectome such as macroscale cortical gradients and gradient dispersion have been proposed, with studies noting consistent gradient and dispersion differences in psychiatric conditions.

Purpose: To develop an improved post-processing pipeline for noise-robust accelerated phase-cycled Cartesian Single (SQ) and Triple Quantum (TQ) sodium (Na) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) of in vivo human brain at 7 T.
Theory And Methods: Our pipeline aims to tackle the challenges of Na Multi-Quantum Coherences (MQC) MRI including low Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) and time-consuming Radiofrequency (RF) phase-cycling. Our method combines low-rank k-space denoising for SNR enhancement with Dynamic Mode Decomposition (DMD) to robustly separate SQ and TQ signal components.

In order to the antifungal activity of chitosan (CS) and to obtain a better natural bio-antimicrobial agent, CS was modified with acrylpimaric acid (APA). The grafting sites of APA on CS were controlled by adjusting the reaction time and the ratio of reactants to obtain APA grafted with CS C-NH (NCSAA) and C-OH (CSAA). Intermediates to protect C-NH (PMCSAA) and final sample derivatives (PCSAA) were prepared using phthalic anhydride.

Alcoholic fatty liver disease (AFLD) is characterized by the accumulation of hepatic lipid and has no effective treatment yet. Fructus Corni is a traditional Chinese medicinal herb, and its extractions have demonstrated hepatoprotective properties. We hypothesize that the polysaccharides in Fructus Corni might have therapeutic effects on AFLD.

Dexamethasone (Dex) is a primary medication for treating dry eye syndrome, and tobramycin-dexamethasone eye drops are commercially available. However, the eye's complex physiological environment reduces its bioavailability, and repeated use can lead to significant systemic toxicity and side effects. This study introduces a novel conjugate of chitosan (CS) and N-acetylcysteine (NAC), a bioadhesive material, which was grafted onto the surface of a Dex-supported nanostructured lipid carrier (NLC) to develop an innovative nanoparticle lipid ocular drug delivery system (CS-NAC@Dex-NLC).
