Background: An important issue in the assessment of health risks related to air pollution with fine dust is the measurement of individual exposure. Such possibilities are provided by relatively easy to use optical monitors. The aim of the presented work was to assess the possibility of using the AM520 optical monitor to measure individual human exposure to PM and PM indoors by determining the calibration factor and assessing the compliance of the measurement with the reference method.
Material And Methods: As part of the research, indoor concentrations of PM and PM and were measured (3 locations in the Gliwice Poviat, March-May 2017) with the use of the SidePak Personal Aerosol Monitor AM520, as well as the reference LVS3D device by means of the gravimetric method. The value of the calibration coefficient for the optical monitor was determined, and the consistency of measurements performed with both methods was assessed.
Results: The photometric calibration factor ranged 0.33-0.40 and was concurrent with the 0.38 value recommended by the manufacturer. The determination coefficient for the correlation between the measurement results obtained with the optical and gravimetric methods was very high (R = 0.91).
Conclusions: The presented results are promising and allow for the conclusion that the AM520 optical monitor can be used to assess individual exposure to PM and PM indoors. Med Pr. 2019;70(2):213-20.

Background: Descemet's membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) is a highly effective procedure for corneal endothelial dysfunction; however, once a DMEK graft is deployed, repositioning can be challenging. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a technique that utilizes infusion and small air bubbles to reposition a misaligned deployed graft.
Methods: This retrospective interventional case series enrolled patients who underwent DMEK between January 2022 and July 2023, including cases where the DMEK graft was attached and unfolded in off-center positions".

A colorimetric-fluorescence ripeness indicator, based on copper nanoparticles and carbon quantum dots doped with nitrogen (CuNPs/N@CQD) immobilized in agar hydrogel (AGH-CuNPs/N@CQDs) for ethylene gas detection, was developed for detecting the ripening of bananas. Ethylene could reduce the fluorescence intensity of CuNPs/N@CQDs and cause a red shift of the LSPR peak. The prepared AGH-CuNPs/N@CQDs indicator had an irreversible response to ethylene with LOD and LOQ of 9.

Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV), an avian coronavirus, member of the genus Gammacoronavirus, poses significant threats to poultry health, causing severe respiratory, reproductive, and renal infections. The genetic diversity of IBV, driven by mutations, recombination and deletions, has led to the emergence of numerous serotypes and genotypes, complicating both diagnosis and control measures. Rapid and accurate diagnostic tools are essential for effective disease management and minimizing economic losses.

Cysteamine (CA) serves as a cystine-depleting agent employed in the management of cystinosis and a range of other medical conditions. Monitoring blood CA levels at the point of care is imperative due to the risk of toxicity associated with elevated CA dosages. An additional significant challenge is presented by the intricate composition of human plasma and the presence of various interfering biological thiols, which possess similar structures or properties.
