Double Opposing Triangular Flaps for Circular Skin Defects: Clinical Considerations.

Plast Reconstr Surg Glob Open

Published: November 2018

Background: Dealing with circular lesions turns out to be a difficult task. Several techniques are aimed at working out the issue, and there are two main goals to achieve: less distortion of the adjacent tissue and sparing as much healthy tissue as possible.

Methods: Six patients have been selected in a period of 6 months, the skin lesions or reoperations entailed a residual round gap up to 5 cm as a diameter. The anatomical distribution is representative of the usual experience seen in the clinical setting. The technique introduced is based on the rotation of two opposing triangular flaps facing each other from the circular skin gap. The triangular landmarks of the flaps prevent both the pinch cushioning of the margins, the resection of wedge healthy tissue needed to regularize the surface and a longer scar.

Results: The six patients' follow-up has been technically uneventful and subjectively satisfying.

Conclusion: Double opposing triangular flaps are proposed as a reliable method to deal with circular skin lesions up to 5 cm of diameter.

Study Design: Prospective, multicenter, single arm study with 5-year follow up.

Objective: To report long-term (5-year) safety, effectiveness, and radiographic outcomes after sacroiliac (SI) joint fusion (SIJF) with 3D-printed triangular titanium implants (TTI) and compare them with solid titanium plasma spray coated implants.

Summary Of Background Data: A large literature base supports minimally invasive SIJF with TTI for chronic SIJ dysfunction.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored a novel method for delivering the drug Goniothalamus macrophyllus transdermally using microneedle arrays in combination with iontophoresis (MN-IP) and electroporation (MN-EP) to treat Ehrlich ascites carcinoma in mice.
  • Results indicated that the parallel arrangement of MN electrodes at 6V effectively delivers the drug to target cancer cells, enhancing the therapeutic potential of photodynamic and sonodynamic therapies.
  • The treatment significantly increased antioxidant activity and apoptotic gene expression while improving liver and kidney functions, ultimately leading to a reduction in tumor growth and induced cancer cell death.

Triamine and Tetramine Edge-Length Matching Drives Heteroleptic Triangular and Tetragonal Prism Assembly.

Article Synopsis
  • Heteroleptic metal-organic capsules have unique interior shapes that can selectively bind specific low-symmetry molecules important in biology and industry.
  • The main challenge is achieving selective self-assembly of these complex structures, rather than ending up with multiple potential outcomes.
  • The researchers propose a design strategy to create these architectures, successfully making triangular and tetragonal prism shapes by carefully matching the side lengths of their constituent ligands.

TiO nanotube arrays grown through electrochemical anodization in a formamide-based electrolyte (TNTA-FA) exhibited a whole host of unusual properties compared to nanotubes grown in the conventional ethylene glycol-based electrolyte (TNTA-EG). TNTA-FA exhibited shorter phonon lifetimes, lower lattice strain, more visible light absorption, lower work function, and a highly unusual adsorbate structure consisting of physisorbed and chemisorbed CO along with linearly adsorbed CO and various monodentate and bidentate carbonate species. The observation of adsorbed CO in the dark is highly unusual and indicates spontaneous deoxygenation of CO on the surface of TNTA-FA.
