The authors describe a fluorometric method for the quantification of tannic acid (TA). MoO quantum dots (QDs) can selectively capture TA via the formation of an organic molybdate complex. This causes an electron transfer effect and an inner filter effect to result in synergistic quenching of the fluorescence of the QDs. TA can be detected via this effect with a linear response in the of 0.1-10 μM concentration range and a lower detection limit of 30 nM within 1 min. The use of such QDs as a quenchable fluorescent probe warrants good selectivity even in the presence of relatively high concentration of potentially interferents and makes the method suitable for real sample analysis. Graphical abstract Tannic acid can be rapidly and selectively detected in food using a MoO quantum dots based fluorometric assay.

Despite their safety and widespread use, conventional protein antigen-based subunit vaccines face significant challenges such as low immunogenicity, insufficient long-term immunity, poor CD8 T-cell activation, and poor adaptation to viral variants. To address these issues, an infection-mimicking gel (IM-Gel) is developed that is designed to emulate the spatiotemporal dynamics of immune stimulation in acute viral infections through in situ supramolecular self-assembly of nanoparticulate-TLR7/8a (NP-TLR7/8a) and an antigen with tannic acid (TA). Through collagen-binding properties of TA, the IM-Gel enables sustained delivery and enhanced retention of NP-TLR7/8a and protein antigen in the lymph node subcapsular sinus of mice for over 7 days, prolonging the exposure of vaccine components in both B cell and T cell zones, leading to robust humoral and cellular responses.

To address the severe problem of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) resistance, this study identified a single component from traditional Chinese medicine that, when used in combination with existing antibiotics, enhances the therapeutic efficacy of the antimicrobial drugs. Using the micro broth dilution method and the checkerboard dilution method, susceptibility tests were conducted on ten commonly used β-lactam antibiotics against eleven strains of MRSA. It was found that cefquinome sulfate exhibits synergistic activity with PROs.

Chebulagic acid and chebulinic acid are the two tannin compounds with the highest content in Terminalia chebula, they were separated by ODS column eluted with 20% methanol and 35% methanol, respectively. The compounds were identified by comparing the data of H NMR and C NMR with the literature; HPLC method was used to investigate the stable storage conditions of chebulagic acid and chebulinic acid; lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induced in vivo inflammation model and RAW264.7 macrophage in vitro inflammatory model to evaluate the anti-inflammatory activities of chebulagic acid and chebulinic acid.

Cellulose nanofibers (CNFs) have gained increasing attention due to their robust mechanical properties, favorable biocompatibility, and facile surface modification. However, green and recyclable CNF production remains challenging. Herein, a green, low-cost and room-temperature strategy was developed to exfoliate CNFs using deep eutectic solvents.

The study aimed to assess the impact of dietary supplementation with tannic acid on the growth, health, and survival of Oreochromis niloticus following exposure to Aeromonas hydrophila. A total of 320 fish were divided into 16 tanks and assigned to four treatment groups: feed with 0.2% tannic acid (TA), 0.
