The article describes the situation with the development of gerontology in the regions of the Russian Federation on the example of Sverdlovsk region. The positive and negative aspects of the possibilities of scientific research in the field of gerontology, training of geriatric doctors in the Ural medical University and the state of geriatric service of the region are presented. A number of changes are proposed in the existing provisions on the formation and development of gerontology science and practice, while preserving decades of regional traditions.

Total risk (probability) of a false decision on conformity of an alloy due to measurement uncertainty and correlation of test results is quantified. As an example, a dataset of test results of a PtRh alloy is studied when contents of four components of the alloy composition are under control. There are specification limits for contents of 1) Pt and 2) Rh; 3) three precious impurities - Au, Ir and Pd, and 4) eight impurities, both precious Au, Ir, Pd, and non-precious Fe, Pb, Si, Sn, Zn.

Terrorist attacks using an aerosolized pathogen have gained credibility as a national security concern after the anthrax attacks of 2001. Inferring some important details of the attack quickly, for example, the number of people infected, the time of infection, and a representative dose received can be crucial to planning a medical response. We use a Bayesian approach, based on a short time series of diagnosed patients, to estimate a joint probability density for these parameters.

Sociohygienic monitoring allowed the priorities to be determined in health maintenance and promotion in the population of this region. The accumulated experience illustrated by some examples that have been earlier published in detail supports the need for a relationship of the above guidelines within the sociohygienic monitoring system, for the development of mechanisms responsible for risk management and further improvement of surveillance of the sanitary and epidemiological situation.
