We have created the first high-power Faraday isolator on an anisotropic magneto-optical element (MOE). The isolator is based on one MOE of a uniaxial CeF crystal and ensures an isolation degree of 30 dB at a high average laser radiation power of 700 W. The limitations due to the anisotropic nature of the crystal do not impose significantly more stringent requirements, either for the beam or the MOE.

Due to the high stability and less maintenance, the radio frequency (RF) driven ion source is preferred for the neutral beam injection (NBI) system. In a popular design of the RF ion source for NBI application, a Faraday shield (FS) is installed inside the RF plasma driver to protect the discharge tube. However, the FS also brings some drawbacks, such as lowering the RF power transfer and increasing the processing difficulty.

Metal sites at the edge of the carbon matrix possess unique geometric and electronic structures, exhibiting higher intrinsic activity than in-plane sites. However, creating single-atom catalysts with high-density edge sites remains challenging. Herein, the hierarchically ordered pore engineering of metal-organic framework-based materials to construct high-density edge-type single-atomic Ni sites for electrochemical CO reduction reaction (CORR) is reported.

Halide solid electrolytes do not currently display ionic conductivities suitable for high-power all-solid-state batteries. We explore the model system AZrCl (A = Li, Na, Cu, Ag) to understand the fundamental role that A-site chemistry plays on fast ion transport. Having synthesised the previously unknown AgZrCl we reveal high room temperature ionic conductivities in CuZrCl and AgZrCl of 1 × 10 and 4 × 10 S cm, respectively.

A novel 4 × 4 Wadsley-Roth block phase, NbTiWO, has been prepared and its structure determined through Neutron and X-ray diffraction studies. Electrochemical testing indicated excellent high rate performance, with a returned delithiation capacity of 184 (4) mA h g at a current of 2 A g.

Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are a class of ionic liquid with emerging applications in ionometallurgy. The characteristic high viscosity of DESs, however, limit mass transport and result in slow dissolution kinetics. Through targeted application of high-power ultrasound, ionometallurgical processing time can be significantly accelerated.
