Characterization of local order in thin films is challenging with pair distribution function (PDF) analysis because of the minute mass of the scattering material. Here, it is demonstrated that reliable high-energy grazing-incidence total X-ray scattering data can be obtained during thin-film deposition by radio-frequency magnetron sputtering. A benchmark system of Pt was investigated in a novel sputtering chamber mounted on beamline P07-EH2 at the PETRA III synchrotron. Robust and high-quality PDFs can be obtained from films as thin as 3 nm and atomistic modelling of the PDFs with a time resolution of 0.5 s is possible. In this way, it was found that a polycrystalline Pt thin film deposits with random orientation at 8 W and 2 × 10 mbar at room temperature. From the PDF it was found that the coherent-scattering domains grow with time. While the first layers are formed with a small tensile strain this relaxes towards the bulk value with increasing film thickness.

Introduction: In Crohn's disease (CD), lesions are mainly distributed in a segmental manner, with the primary sites of involvement being the ileum and colon. Heterogeneity in colon and ileum results in location-specific clinical presentations and therapeutic responses. Mucosal healing tends to be more readily and quickly achieved in the colon than in the ileum, where lesions are more likely to develop into complex behaviors.

The eruption in Fagradalsfjall Volcano, located in Reykjanes Peninsula, Iceland, from several centuries' dormant states, occurred for the first time on March 19, 2021. Observations of Fagradalsfjall Volcano were conducted in 2021, and the eruption period lasted for six months until 18 September 2021. Six days pair of interferograms were generated from ninety synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data.

In everyday dentistry, lithium disilicate is a valid option for single-fix partial dentures, and this material crystallization process is available with two protocols: long and short. This study's aim was to assess the effects of these two different crystallization protocols, long and short, on the marginal gap of lithium disilicate single crowns. A total of 24 abutment plastic teeth were scanned using an intra-oral scanner.

As the most effective way to remedy and reconstruct the degraded ecosystems, vegetation restoration could affect soil carbon and nitrogen cycles and water balance. We examined the responses of carbon, nitrogen, and water in 0-200 cm soil layer to vegetation restoration years by analyzing their distribution characteristics across a restoration chronosequence of plantation (5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 years) in alpine sandy region of the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau. The results showed that the content and storage of soil organic carbon (SOC) and soil total nitrogen (STN) increased significantly, while that of soil inorganic carbon (SIC) decreased significantly with restoration years.

The standard definition of particle number fluctuations based on point-like particles neglects the excluded volume effect. This leads to a large and systematic finite-size scaling and an unphysical surface term in the isothermal compressibility. We correct these errors by introducing a modified pair distribution function that takes account of the finite size of the particles.
