Visual disengagement has been hypothesized as an endophenotype for autism. In this study we used twin modelling to assess the role of genetics in basic measures of visual disengagement, and tested their putative association to autistic traits in the general population. We used the Gap Overlap task in a sample of 492 twins. Results showed that most of the covariance among eye movement latencies across conditions was shared and primarily genetic. Further, there were unique genetic contributions to the Gap condition, but not to the Overlap condition-i.e. the one theorized to capture visual disengagement. We found no phenotypic association between autistic traits and disengagement, thus not supporting the hypothesis of visual disengagement as an endophenotype for autistic traits.

Introduction: Multisensory integration (MSI) enhances perception by combining information from different sensory modalities. In schizophrenia, individuals often exhibit impaired audiovisual processing, resulting in broader temporal binding windows (TBWs) which appear to be associated with symptom severity. The immediate space surrounding the hands has often been termed the peri-hand space (PHS), and is characterized by a smaller reaction time (RT), better detection, and enhanced accuracy for stimuli presented in this space, relative to those stimuli presented beyond this space. Such behavioral changes have been explained in terms of a biased allocation of cognitive resources such as perception, attention, and memory, for the efficient processing of information presented in the PHS. However, in two experiments, the current study shows that these cognitive biases seem to have an underlying temporal basis.

Gestational Age (GA) at birth plays a crucial role in identifying potential vulnerabilities to long-term difficulties in cognitive and behavioral development. The present study aims to explore the influence of gestational age on the efficiency of early visual attention orienting, as a potential marker for the development of specific high-level socio-cognitive skills. Background: Young Black male individuals are 24 times more likely to be impacted by firearm injuries and homicides but encounter significant barriers to care and service disengagement, even in program-rich cities across the United States, leaving them worryingly underserved. Existing community-based interventions focus on secondary and tertiary prevention after firearm violence has occurred and are typically deployed in emergency settings. To address these service and uptake issues, we developed BrotherlyACT-a nurse-led, culturally tailored, multicomponent app-to reduce the risk and effects of firearm injuries and homicides and to improve access to precrisis and mental health resources for young Black male individuals (aged 15-24 years) in low-resource and high-violence settings.
