Early detection of subjective cognitive decline from self-reported symptoms: An interpretable attention-cost fusion approach.

J Biomed Inform

January 2025

Department of Information Management and Business Analytics, Montclair State University, Feliciano School of Business, NJ, USA. Electronic address:

Background And Objective: Subjective cognitive decline (SCD) refers to self-reported difficulties in concentration, memory, and decision-making. Since SCD is based on subjective experiences, no specific medical test can definitively confirm its presence, making early detection challenging. Thus, it is advantageous to develop an AI model to capitalize on self-reported health complications, personality traits, and sociodemographic factors for early detection of SCD.

Anti-migraine medications safety during pregnancy in the US.

Front Pharmacol

December 2024

Independent Consultant, Los Angeles, CA, United States.

Background: Specific antimigraine medications (dihydroergotamine (DHE), triptans) have been associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes in individual studies but lack of consensus remains.

Objectives: Quantify the risk of prematurity, low birth weight (LBW), major congenital malformations (MCM), and spontaneous abortions (SA) associated with gestational use of DHE or triptans in a privately insured cohort of pregnant women in the US.

Methods: We conducted a cohort study within the US Merative MarketScan Research Database (2011-2021), composed of a nationally representative sample of patients with employer-provided health insurance.

Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD), primarily caused by atherosclerosis, is a leading cause of death, presenting as angina or myocardial infarction. Advances in cardiac imaging, angiography, and procedures like percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) or coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery have improved early detection and management of this condition. This report presents the case of a man who experienced worsening exertional chest pain and discomfort while at rest.

How do manipulation checks interfere with the inference of causal relationships?

Behav Res Methods

December 2024

Department of Psychology, Chungbuk National University, 1 Chungdae-Ro, Seowon-Gu, Cheongju, Chungbuk, 28644, Republic of Korea.

This study investigates the performance of mediation analyses, including manipulation check variables, in experimental studies where manipulated psychological attributes are independent variables. We simulated the level of manipulation intensities and measurement errors of the manipulation check variable to test the validity of the analytic practice. Our results showed that when manipulation is successful and measurement error is low, mediation analyses with the manipulation check variable revealed an unstable path coefficient and standard error.

Intracranial cystic lesions such as hemangioblastoma (HB) are commonly found incidentally; however, they can be difficult to diagnose because they require various differential diagnoses. A contrast-enhanced mural nodule on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is typical and can be diagnosed preoperatively; however, some small nodules cannot be visualised and only cysts may be seen, complicating preoperative diagnosis. In such cases, thorough observation of the cysts is necessary for a definitive diagnosis.
