Pectin is one of the finest natural polymer which has drawn great attention because of its applications in different fields. Due to the quintessential structure of pectin, it can be transformed into variety of useful products. It can be utilized as a blend in many polymers to make a mixture or a composite material. Owing to considerable collection in chemical conformation and cross-linking mechanism, different pectin based hydrogels have been prepared for different characteristics in pharmaceutical and bio-medical sites. Inventive properties of hydrogels like volubility, swellability, solvability and hydrophilicity make them better alternative for wastewater treatment. Recently, pectin based hydrogels have demonstrated excellent performance to eliminate various metal ions and dyes from the polluted water. The adsorption characteristics of pectin based hydrogels can be upgraded by using nanoparticles, which prompts to the development of hydrogel nano-composites. In this review article, we have summarized a comprehensive assessment in the direction of using pectin based hydrogels to remove toxic pollutants from aqueous solution. Sodium acrylate-co-N-isopropylacrylamide based pectin hydrogel has demonstrated the maximum adsorption capacities of 265.49, 137.43, 54.86, 53.86, 51.72 and 50.01 mg g for the adsorption of methyl violet, methylene blue, Pb(II), Cu(II), Co(II) and Zn(II) respectively. We have also discussed the pectin structure, properties and applications in this article.

Alternatives to nonbiodegradable synthetic plastics for food packaging include films made from biopolymers that are nontoxic and environment-friendly. In this study, carnauba wax (CW) and nitrogen-doped graphene quantum dots (NG) as functional additives were utilized in the production of pectin/gelatin (PG) film. NG was synthesized through the microwave method, using acetic acid as the carbon source, giving size, and zeta potential of 1.

Unlabelled: is the causal agent of stem rot of many crops, a highly destructive disease of groundnut ( L). Based on evidence that many groundnut genotypes have an inherent ability to tolerate the pathogenicity of species, twenty-two genotypes of groundnut were screened against infection in sick plot field experiment; four genotypes, namely CS19, GG16, GG20 and TG37A, were selected as being the most tolerant, moderately tolerant, susceptible and highly susceptible to stem rot, respectively. Stem tissues (1cm from the collar region) from infected and healthy plants of four selected genotypes differing in susceptibility were examined using a scanning electron microscope (SEM).

Traditional natural polysaccharide-based hydrogels, when used as drug carriers, often struggle to maintain long-term stability in the extremely harsh gastric environment. This results in unstable drug release and significant challenges in bioavailability. To address this issue, this study utilized inexpensive and safe natural polysaccharides-chitosan (CS) and high methoxyl pectin (HM)-as raw materials.

Natural biopolymer-based liquid mulching films (LMF) have received widespread attention, whereas the fragile structure and limited functionality have severely restricted their application. Herein, polydopamine-coated montmorillonite micro/nanoparticles enhanced pectin-based sprayable multifunctional liquid mulching films (P-MMT@PDA LMF) were prepared. Dopamine has abundant active sites, and its self-polymerization onto the surface of MMT improves the compatibility of MMT with pectin chains, facilitates the homogeneous dispersion of MMT@PDA in pectin polymers, and makes them more tightly entangled through hydrogen bonding.

This study investigates the properties of egg-free mayonnaise prepared using chia seed protein hydrolysate (CSPH) and pectin extracted from apple pomace (PA) as alternatives to egg, comparing it to traditional egg-based mayonnaise. Chia seed protein was hydrolyzed using Protamex and Bromelain enzymes, while apple pectin was extracted through acid hydrolysis at 90 °C. Four mayonnaise treatments were prepared: T1 (control: 6 % egg), T2 (4 % egg + 1 % CSPH + 1 % PA), T3 (2 % egg + 2 % CSPH + 2 % PA), and T4 (0 % egg + 3 % CSPH + 3 % PA).
