Phenolates and their substituted analogues are important molecular motifs in many biological molecules, including the family of fluorescent proteins based on green fluorescent protein. We have used a combination of anion photoelectron velocity-map imaging measurements and quantum chemistry calculations to probe the electronic structure of the phenolate anion and difluoro- and dimethoxy-substituted analogues. We report vertical detachment energies (VDEs) and quantify the photoelectron angular distributions. The VDEs for phenolate (2.26 ± 0.03 eV, 3.22 ± 0.02 eV) are in agreement with high-resolution measurements, whereas the values for the substituted analogues (2.61 ± 0.03 eV for difluorophenolate; ∼2.35 eV for dimethoxyphenolate) are new measurements. We also report adiabatic excitation energies (AEEs) of anion resonances and discuss their contributions to the overall photoelectron angular distributions. The AEE of the lowest lying resonance in phenolate (∼3.36 eV) is consistent with previous measurements, whereas the value for the next resonance (∼3.7 eV) is a new measurement. The AEEs of the resonances in the substituted analogues (∼3.74 eV for difluorophenolate; ∼3.4 and 3.74 eV for dimethoxyphenolate) are new measurements.

Residual nitrite (NO) and nitrate (NO) have been widely studied in the past few decades for their function to improve processed meat quality and their impact on human health. In this study we examined how the residual nitrite and nitrate (NO) content of major classes of processed meats products (n = 1132) produced locally from three regions (East Coast, Midwest and West Coast) and plant protein-based meat analogues (n = 53) available at retail in the United States was influenced by their composition, processing, and geographical attributes. We also conducted time-dependent depletion studies and observed different patterns of NO depletion and conversion during processing and storage and correlated them with product quality.

Achieving HBsAg seroclearance is a key goal in treating chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection but remains difficult with nucleos(t)ide analogues (NAs). Tenofovir alafenamide fumarate (TAF), a recommended NA for managing chronic HBV infection (CHB), has uncertain effects on HBsAg levels and potential adverse events when used long-term after switching from entecavir (ETV). We retrospectively evaluated 77 CHB patients, including 47 who switched from ETV to TAF with a median follow-up of 40 months post-switch and a median of 60 months of HBsAg monitoring pre-switch.

Background/objectives: New drugs are required for the treatment of liver cancers and protozoal parasite infections. Analogs of the known anticancer active and antileishmanial 2',4',6'-trimethoxychalcone SU086 were prepared and investigated.
Methods: The chalcones were prepared according to the Claisen-Schmidt condensation protocol and analyzed.

Butyl phenyl--phosphinate that is not available commercially was prepared from phenyl--phosphinic acid by three methods: by alkylating esterification (i), by microwave-assisted direct esterification (ii), and unexpectedly, by thermal esterification (iii). Considering the green aspects, selectivity and scalability, the thermal variation seemed to be optimal. However, there was need for prolonged heating.

The natural products combretastatins A-1 and A-4 are potent antimitotic and vascular-disrupting agents through their binding at the colchicine site in tubulin. However, these compounds suffer from a low water solubility and a tendency to isomerize to the inactive stilbenes. In this study, we have prepared a series of 18 -restricted triazole analogues of combretastatin A-4 (CA-4), maintaining, in all cases, the 3,4,5-trimethoxy phenyl ring A, with the aim of investigating the substitution pattern on the B-ring in a systematic way.
