We have developed a fast gamma-ray interaction-position estimation method using k-d tree search, which can be combined with various kinds of closeness metrics such as Euclidean distance, maximum-likelihood estimation, etc. Compared with traditional search strategies, this method can achieve both speed and accuracy at the same time using the k-d tree data structure. The k-d tree search method has a time complexity of [Formula: see text], where N is the number of entries in the reference data set, which means large reference datasets can be used to efficiently estimate each event's interaction position. This method's accuracy was found to be equal to that of the exhaustive search method, yielding the highest achievable accuracy. Most importantly, this method has no restriction on the data structure of the reference dataset and can still work with complicated mean-detector-response functions (MDRFs), meaning that it is more robust than other popular methods such as contracting-grid-search (CG) or vector-search (VS) methods that could yield locally optimal instead of globally optimal results.

Increasing evidence suggests the involvement of metabolic alterations in neurological disorders, including Alzheimer's disease (AD), and highlights the significance of the peripheral metabolome, influenced by genetic factors and modifiable environmental exposures, for brain health. In this study, we examined 1,387 metabolites in plasma samples from 1,082 dementia-free middle-aged participants of the population-based Rotterdam Study. We assessed the relation of metabolites with general cognition (G-factor) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) markers using linear regression and estimated the variance of these metabolites explained by genes, gut microbiome, lifestyle factors, common clinical comorbidities, and medication using gradient boosting decision tree analysis.

Background: Since the beginning of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak, dynamic mutations in the receptor-binding domain (RBD) in the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) spike protein have altered the pathogenicity of the variants of the virus circulating in Indonesia. This research analyzes the mutation trend in various RBD samples from Indonesia published in the Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data (GISAID) database using genomic profiling.
Method: Patients in Indonesia infected with SARS-CoV-2, whose samples have been published in genomic databases, were selected for this research.

Predicting how plants respond to drought requires an understanding of how physiological mechanisms and drought response strategies occur, as these strategies underlie rates of gas exchange and productivity. We assessed the response of 11 plant traits to repeated experimental droughts in four co-occurring species of central Australia. The main goals of this study were to: (i) compare the response to drought between species; (ii) evaluate whether plants acclimated to repeated drought; and (iii) examine the degree of recovery in leaf gas exchange after cessation of drought.
