Objective: Epilepsy surgery in the operculoinsular cortex is challenging due to the difficult delineation of the epileptogenic zone and the high risk of postoperative deficits.

Methods: Pre- and postsurgical data from 30 pediatric patients who underwent operculoinsular cortex surgery at the Motol Epilepsy Center Prague from 2010 to 2022 were analyzed.

Results: Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD; n = 15, 50%) was the predominant cause of epilepsy, followed by epilepsy-associated tumors (n = 5, 17%) and tuberous sclerosis complex (n = 2, 7%).

Background: With the help of an evidence-based approach called "Enhanced Recovery After Surgery" (ERAS), patients can receive standardised perioperative care and recover more quickly. Many surgical specialities, such as orthopaedics, gynaecological onco-surgery, breast surgery, urology, and colorectal surgery, use ERAS protocols extensively. Improved postoperative recovery is beneficial in lowering hospital stays, and costs, and increasing patient satisfaction.

Liver transplantation for organ failure following multiple locoregional treatments for breast cancer metastasis.

Ann Hepatobiliary Pancreat Surg

November 2024

Department of General, Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery, Liver Transplantation Service, San Camillo Forlanini Hospital, Rome, Italy.

Patients with nonresectable breast cancer liver metastasis (BCLM) face a dismal prognosis. Despite liver transplantation (LT) for metastatic liver tumors having recently shown good results, BCLM represents an absolute contraindication. This study aimed to investigate the potential for long-term survival after LT for BCLMs in a patient experiencing end-stage liver disease, following multiple oncologic treatments.

We report a case of TINU syndrome in which the presence of choroiditis was revealed by multimodal imaging.

Case Presentation: A 12-year-old male visited our hospital with a 6-day history of ocular pain and hyperemia.

CANTRK: A Canadian Ring Study to Optimize Detection of NTRK Gene Fusions by Next-Generation RNA Sequencing.

J Mol Diagn

March 2023

Laboratory Medicine Program, University Health Network, Toronto, Ontario, Canada; Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology, University of Toronto, Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

The Canadian NTRK (CANTRK) study is an interlaboratory comparison ring study to optimize testing for neurotrophic receptor tyrosine kinase (NTRK) fusions in Canadian laboratories. Sixteen diagnostic laboratories used next-generation sequencing (NGS) for NTRK1, NTRK2, or NTRK3 fusions. Each laboratory received 12 formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tumor samples with unique NTRK fusions and two control non-NTRK fusion samples (one ALK and one ROS1).
