Improved nested U-structure for accurate nailfold capillary segmentation.

Microvasc Res

July 2024

Changes in the structure and function of nailfold capillaries may be indicators of numerous diseases. Noninvasive diagnostic tools are commonly used for the extraction of morphological information from segmented nailfold capillaries to study physiological and pathological changes therein. However, current segmentation methods for nailfold capillaries cannot accurately separate capillaries from the background, resulting in issues such as unclear segmentation boundaries.

Peripheral arterial diseases are commonly managed with endovascular procedures, which often face limitations in device control and visualization under X-ray fluoroscopy guidance. In response, we developed the CathCam, an angioscope integrated into an expandable cable-driven parallel mechanism to enhance real-time visualization, precise device positioning and catheter support for successful plaque crossing. The primary objective of this study was to assess and compare the performance of the novel CathCam with respect to conventional catheters and the CathPilot (i.

Nailfold capillaroscopy findings of interstitial pneumonia with autoimmune features.

Korean J Intern Med

November 2023

Division of Rheumatology, Department of Internal Medicine, Research Institute of Medical Science, Konkuk University School of Medicine, Seoul, Korea.

Background/aims: We evaluated nailfold capillaroscopy (NFC) of interstitial pneumonia with autoimmune features (IPAF) and compared it with that of patients with connective tissue disease-interstitial lung disease (CTD-ILD) and idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (IIP).

Methods: Patients with newly diagnosed as ILD were evaluated using NFC. Baseline demographic, clinical, serological, and high-resolution CT findings were collected.

Vascular involvement in Behçet's disease: ultrasound assessment of femoral vein intima-media thickness, nailfold capillaroscopy and endothelial progenitor cells in a national referral centre.

Clin Exp Rheumatol

October 2023

IDIVAL, Research Group on Genetic Epidemiology and Atherosclerosis in Systemic Diseases and in Metabolic Bone Diseases of the Musculoskeletal System, Santander, and Department of Rheumatology, Hospital Universitario Marqués de Valdecilla, Santander, Spain.

Objectives: To assess vascular involvement at different levels in patients with Behçet's disease (BD).

Methods: We conducted an observational study of unselected consecutive patients with BD assessed in a national referral centre. Demographic and clinical variables were collected.

Objectives: Nailfold capillaroscopy is key to timely diagnosis of SSc, but is often not used in rheumatology clinics because the images are difficult to interpret. We aimed to develop and validate a fully automated image analysis system to fill this gap.

Methods: We mimicked the image interpretation strategies of SSc experts, using deep learning networks to detect each capillary in the distal row of vessels and make morphological measurements.
