Article Synopsis
  • * Although maternal hypertension reduces neutrophil counts, it does not significantly raise the risk of neutropenia in newborns.
  • * The gestational age of the infants plays a more crucial role in determining neutropenia risk, with most cases of neutropenia resolving within 48 hours.

Kombucha is a very distinct naturally fermented sweetened tea that has been produced for thousands of years. Fermentation relies on metabolic activities of the complex autochthonous symbiotic microbiota embedded in a floating biofilm and used as a backslop for successive fermentations. Here, we designed a tailor-made microbial consortium representative of the core Kombucha microbiota to drive this fermentation.

Background: A high number of thrombotic complications have been reported in critically ill patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and appear to be related to a hypercoagulable state. Evidence regarding detection, management, and monitoring of COVID-19-associated coagulopathy is still missing. We propose to describe the thrombus viscoelastic properties to investigate the mechanisms of hypercoagulability in patients with COVID-19.

A study was carried out to determine the activities of radionuclides (Cs, K, Ra, Bi, Pb, and Pb) and the levels of biochemical components (lipids, carbohydrates, and proteins) in mussels (Mytilus galloprovincialis) along the Algerian coast. The goal was to evaluate the effect of mussels' biological parameters on radionuclide concentrations, through two coastal water biomonitoring programs. The mussels were taken from three study areas on the Algerian coast: Kristel (Oran), Surcouf (Alger), and Collo (Skikda), for the passive biomonitoring program and transplanted from each study area into the control site of Surcouf.

Background: The Plasmodium falciparum chloroquine transporter gene (pfcrt) is known to be involved in chloroquine and amodiaquine resistance, and more particularly the mutations on the loci 72 to 76 localized within the second exon. Additionally, new mutations (T93S, H97Y, C101F, F145I, M343L, C350R and G353V) were recently shown to be associated with in vitro reduced susceptibility to piperaquine in Asian or South American P. falciparum strains.
