Extraintestinal pathogenic . (ExPEC) are facultative pathogens that are part of the normal human intestinal flora. The ExPEC group includes uropathogenic (UPEC), neonatal meningitis (NMEC), sepsis-associated (SEPEC), and avian pathogenic (APEC). Virulence factors (VF) related to the pathogenicity of ExPEC are numerous and have a wide range of activities, from those related to bacteria colonization to those related to virulence, including adhesins, toxins, iron acquisition factors, lipopolysaccharides, polysaccharide capsules, and invasins, which are usually encoded on pathogenicity islands (PAIs), plasmids and other mobile genetic elements. Mechanisms underlying the dynamics of ExPEC transmission and the selection of virulent clones are still poorly understood and require further research. The time shift between colonization of ExPEC and the development of infection remains problematic in the context of establishing the relation between consumption of contaminated food and the appearance of first disease symptoms. What appears to be most difficult is to prove that ExPEC strains cause disease symptoms and to examine the mechanism of transition from the asymptomatic colonization of the intestines to the spreading of the bacteria outside the digestive system. A significant problem for researchers who are trying to ascribe ExPEC transmission to food, people or the environment is to draw the distinction between colonization of ExPEC and infection. Food safety is an important challenge for public health both at the production stage and in the course of its processing and distribution. Examination of the genetic similarity of ExPEC strains will allow to determine their origin from different sources. Many levels of genotyping have been proposed in which the typing of strains, plasmids and genes is compared in order to obtain a more complete picture of this complex problem. The aim of our study was to characterize strains isolated from humans, animals and food for the presence of bacterial genes encoding virulence factors such as toxins, and iron acquisition systems (siderophores) in the context of an increasing spread of ExPEC infections.

Over a decade since its discovery, piscine myocarditis virus (PMCV) remains a significant pathogen in Atlantic salmon aquaculture. Despite this significant impact, the genomic landscape, evolutionary dynamics, and virulence factors of PMCV are poorly understood. This study enhances the existing PMCV sequence dataset by adding 34 genome sequences and 202 new ORF3 sequences from clinical cardiomyopathy syndrome (CMS) cases in Norwegian aquaculture.

Unlabelled: Urinary tract infections (UTIs), largely caused by uropathogenic (UPEC), are increasingly resistant to antibiotics and frequently recur. Using immunoinformatics, we designed a multiepitope peptide vaccine targeting UPEC virulence factors, including iron acquisition systems and adhesins. The construct features 12 cytotoxic T lymphocyte epitopes, six helper T lymphocyte epitopes, and six B-cell epitopes,and isoptimized for high antigenicity, immunogenicity, nontoxic, and low allergenic potential.

Advances in bacteriophage genome sequencing and regulatory approvals of some bacteriophages in various applications have renewed interest in these antibacterial viruses as a potential solution to persistent food safety challenges. Here, we analyzed in depth the genome of the previously studied bacteriophage OSYSP (phage OSYSP), revealed its application-related characteristics, and optimized its enumeration techniques for facilitating industrial implementation. We previously sequenced phage OSYSP genome completely by combining results from Illumina Miseq and Ion Torrent sequencing platforms and completing the remaining sequence gaps using PCR.

The emergence of pandrug-resistant (PDR) and extensive drug-resistant (XDR) methicillin-resistant and vancomycin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA and VRSA) isolates from bovine milk samples along with biofilm formation ability and harboring various virulence genes complicates the treatment of bovine mastitis and highlights the serious threat to public health. This study investigated for the first time the frequency, antimicrobial resistance profiles, biofilm-forming ability, virulence factors, spa and staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) types of MRSA and VRSA isolated from clinical and subclinical bovine mastitis in Egypt. A total of 808 milk samples were collected from each quarter of 202 dairy animals, including 31 buffaloes and 171 cattle.
