has been linked with the etiopathogenesis of psoriasis with inconsistent results. C677T polymorphism was evaluated in 106 Saudi psoriasis vulgaris patients and 280 matched healthy controls using PCR-RFLP (restriction fragment length plymorphism) technique. The cardiovascular risk factors were also compared in cases and controls. Allele T and genotypes CT and TT were found to be increased while allele C and genotype CC significantly decreased in psoriasis patients as compared with controls ( < .001). These results showed that the T-allele and T-containing genotypes (TT, CT) of C677T are significantly linked with psoriasis susceptibility while C-allele and CC genotype are protective for it. Body mass index, fasting glucose, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, triglycerides, and C-reactive protein, known markers for cardiovascular diseases, were found to be significantly elevated in the patient group as compared with the controls. It is concluded that the C677T polymorphism increases psoriasis risk in Saudi patients.

: Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) is a prevalent and debilitating mental disorder that has been linked to hyperhomocysteinemia and folate deficiency. These conditions are influenced by the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase () gene, which plays a crucial role in converting homocysteine to methionine and is essential for folate metabolism and neurotransmitter synthesis, including serotonin. : This study explored the association between and polymorphisms among Saudi MDD patients attending the Erada Complex for Mental Health and Erada Services outpatient clinic in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Meta-analysis and systematic review for the genetic basis of cleft lip and palate.

Researcher at the Egyptian Ministry of Health, PO Box 2111, Tanta, Egypt.

Cleft lip and palate (CLP) are a usually inherited anomaly described as a gap in the oral cavity's upper lip and/or roof. The etiology of CLP involves both genetic and environmental factors. The current study aimed to examine the genetic basis of nonsyndromic (NS) CLP (NSCL/P) and its association with specific genetic polymorphisms.

Background: Over the past decade, numerous studies have been conducted to determine the role of homocysteine and methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase () gene polymorphisms in the pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), yet the results are inconsistent. The aim of the current study was to determine the association between homocysteine levels (Hcy), ) and A1298C polymorphisms, and pregnancy outcomes in Georgian women with PCOS.

Materials And Methods: This case-control study included 177 female participants, of which 96 women were diagnosed with PCOS, and 81 age-matched women were without PCOS.

Background: Unexplained recurrent miscarriage (RM) is still an unsolved reproductive health problem. Inherited thrombophilias have been one of the causes. Mutation in genes encoding coagulation proteins, including prothrombin (PT G20210A) and methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) genes, increase tendency for venous thromboembolism.

The relationship between folate concentrations and stroke risk remains unestablished, and the mediation effect of homocysteine (Hcy) and interaction effect of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase () gene polymorphism has yet to be investigated. This cohort study involved 4903 subjects derived from a Chinese community population. The association between folate and first stroke was examined in Cox proportional hazard regression models.
