Results of a study on microstructural evolution of eutectic Sn-57 wt.% Bi processed with cooling rates of 10, 1 K s and approximately 10 K s are presented. In order to distinguish different mechanisms of microstructure formation, a comparison with microstructures of different hypoeutectic alloys with compositions down to below the maximum solubility of Bi in Sn-Bi is undertaken. It is found that at the cooling rates of 10 and 1 K s, coupled eutectic growth occurs, leading to lamellar structures with different length scales. At the rapid quenching rates of approximately 10 K s, structure formation in the eutectic alloy is qualitatively different. Partitionless solidification resulting in a supersaturated solid solution with the initial composition is observed in both eutectic and hypoeutectic alloys. It is shown that the observed microstructure of the rapidly solidified alloys forms by the decomposition of the supersaturated solid solution. Hypothesis: It is hypothesised in this work that mesoscale clusters will be present in both undersaturated and supersaturated solutions of organic pharmaceutical molecules. These clusters, being loose aggregates, could be sensitive to shear forces experienced during filtration. Thus, comparing the behaviour of these clusters alongside nanoparticles during filtration-an important sample treatment parameter during crystallization-will elucidate qualitative differences from solid, crystalline nanoparticles of similar size.

The limited cycling durability of Zn anode, attributed to the absence of a robust electrolyte-derived solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), remains the bottleneck for the practical deployment of aqueous zinc batteries. Herein, we highlight the role of local supersaturation in governing the fundamental crystallization chemistry of Zn4SO4(OH)6·xH2O (ZSH) and propose a subtle supersaturation-controlled morphology strategy to tailor the interphase chemistry of Zn anode. By judiciously creating local high-supersaturation environment with organic caprolactam to manipulate the precipitation manner of zinc sulfate hydroxide (ZSH), lattice-lattice matched heterogeneous nucleation of ZSH (001) and Zn (002) is realized in aqueous ZnSO4, producing a dense, pseudo-coincidence interface capable of functioning as decent SEI.

Widespread geogenic uranium (U) contamination of Indian groundwaters is of serious concern; yet little is known of the dominant forms and release mechanisms of U in these aquifers. Interestingly, manganese (Mn)-rich aquifers, highly buffered by dissolved inorganic carbon (DIC) and saturated with rhodochrosite [MnCO], have shown low U (

For compendial dissolution testing of solid dosage forms, media volumes of 500 to 900 mL are used in apparatus I and II to ensure sink conditions. However, these volumes are considerably larger than those in the gastrointestinal tract. Thus, the experiments are not biomimetic and possibly not suitable for biopredictive dissolution testing.

Polyoxylglycerides-based solid mixtures, commercially known as Gelucire®, are excipients commonly used for bioavailability improvement of poorly water-soluble drugs. However, their effect on solutions containing hydrophobic drugs above crystalline solubility has not yet been explored. The goal of this study was to investigate the impact of a mix of two commercial Gelucire® with high HLB values (Gelucire®50/13 and Gelucire®48/16) on the amorphous solubility and crystallization from supersaturated solutions of ketoprofen, used as model drug.
