Context: The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic occurred during a time of political tension in the United States. County-level political environment may have been influential in COVID-19 outcomes.
Objective: This study examined the association between county-level political environment and age-adjusted COVID-19 mortality rates from 2020 to 2022.
The July 2024 Trump assassination attempt was followed by lower in-group support for partisan violence and increased group unity.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFPolitics as the exercise of power always influence public policies-which reflects the multifaceted nature of decision-making-but "using politics" as a motivation for self-serving interests of government leaders and their allies poses problems. This article reviews the impacts of COVID-19 on health systems of the Latin American and Caribbean region from a political lens. We highlight the overriding influence of politics in health policies, weak governance structures that became compromised, exacerbation of corruption, and breakdowns in the communication and trust between governments and their citizens.

Retracted COVID-19 articles have circulated widely on social media. Although retractions are intended to correct the scientific record, when trust in science is low, they may instead be interpreted as evidence of censorship or simply ignored. We performed a content analysis of tweets about the two most widely shared retracted COVID-19 articles, Mehra20 and Rose21, before and after their retractions.
