The fifth floor of the Texas Medical Association building in Austin houses an archival collection of thousands of books, photographs, and artifacts documenting the rich history of Texas medicine. And there's always room for more. That's what unexpectedly happened in October, when TMA staff found an 1892 hand-written letter tucked away in the pages of an old medical journal. The speech gives modern-day physicians a look at the tools and techniques surgeons used more than 100 years ago.

The fate of the West Antarctic Ice Sheet (WAIS) is the largest cause of uncertainty in long-term sea-level projections. In the last interglacial (LIG) around 125,000 years ago, data suggest that sea level was several metres higher than today, and required a significant contribution from Antarctic ice loss, with WAIS usually implicated. Antarctica and the Southern Ocean were warmer than today, by amounts comparable to those expected by 2100 under moderate to high future warming scenarios.

Fishing gears are conventionally made from non-biodegradable materials including polyamide (PA). When lost in the ocean, these gears have long-lasting impacts, including marine littering, microplastics production, leaching of chemicals, and an extended period of ghost fishing due to its durability. The use of biodegradable co-polyester material such as polybutylene succinate co-adipate-co-terephthalate (PBSAT) and polybutylene succinate-co-butylene adipate (PBSA) as fishing gear materials have been considered as a potential solution to reduce the associated impact.
