Aims: To explore the association between platelet distribution width (PDW) and stroke in atrial fibrillation (AF) patients.
Methods: This study included 150 AF patients who were divided into stroke and non-stroke groups. Multivariate logistic regression analysis and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve were performed.
Results: Among the 150 patients, 50 and 100 were grouped into the stroke and non-stroke groups, respectively. There were significant differences in systolic blood pressure, total cholesterol, C-reactive protein, and PDW between the groups (<0.05). Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that PDW (OR: 1.56, =0.002) was a risk factor for stroke.
Conclusions: PDW was an important risk factor for stroke in AF patients, suggesting it has the potential to be a new biomarker for predicting stroke.

To systematically evaluate the efficacy of Fuzheng Huayu (FZHY) tablets/capsules on hepatitis B-associated liver fibrosis or cirrhosis based on randomized controlled trials (RCTs) in order to provide more accurate evidence-based medicine for clinical rational drug use. Randomized controlled clinical trial research reports related to the treatment of hepatitis B-associated liver fibrosis or cirrhosis with FZHY published in SCI and statistical source core journals were retrieved from databases such as PubMed, Cochrane Library, and China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI). Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are central to blood formation and play a pivotal role in hematopoietic and systemic aging. With aging, HSCs undergo significant functional changes, such as an increased stem cell pool, declined homing and reconstitution capacity, and skewed differentiation towards myeloid and megakaryocyte/platelet progenitors. These phenotypic alterations are likely due to the expansion of certain clones, known as clonal hematopoiesis (CH), which leads to disrupted hematopoietic homeostasis, including anemia, impaired immunity, higher risks of hematological malignancies, and even associations with cardiovascular disease, highlighting the broader impact of HSC aging on overall health.

Background: An increasing body of evidence has linked fructose intake to colorectal cancer (CRC). African American (AA) adults consume greater quantities of fructose and are more likely to develop right-side colon cancer than European American (EA) adults.
Objective: We examined the hypothesis that fructose consumption leads to epigenomic and transcriptomic differences associated with CRC tumor biology.

Objective: To describe the presentation, outcomes, and management strategies for cases of subcapsular liver hematoma associated with preeclampsia, eclampsia, or HELLP (hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet count) syndrome.
Methods: This was a case series of individuals with subcapsular liver hematoma managed at a single level IV center over a 10-year period, from 2013 to 2024. Presenting signs and symptoms, laboratory findings, time of onset, management strategies, acute perinatal and maternal outcomes, and long-term outcomes such as subsequent pregnancies were reviewed in the medical record and recorded.

Objective: This study investigated the long-term health risks associated with occupational noise exposure. By using 9 years of health examination data from a major manufacturing company in Taiwan, this study compared the health indices of employees in noise-intensive and non-noise-intensive work environments.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of 6278 health examination reports spanning 9 years was conducted to compare 20 health indices among 166 employees evenly distributed between noise-intensive and non-noise-intensive workgroups.
