Photoelectron velocity map imaging of Li(CHOCH) clusters (1 ≤ n ≤ 175) is used to search for magic numbers related to the photoelectron anisotropy. Comparison with density functional calculations reveals magic numbers at n = 4, 5, and 6, resulting from the symmetric charge distribution with high s-character of the highest occupied molecular orbital. Since each of these three cluster sizes correspond to the completion of a first coordination shell, they can be considered as "isomeric motifs of the first coordination shell". Differences in the photoelectron anisotropy, the vertical ionization energies and the enthalpies of vaporization between Li(CHOCH) and Na(CHOCH) can be rationalized in terms of differences in their solvation shells, atomic ionization energies, polarizabilities, metal-oxygen bonds, ligand-ligand interactions and by cooperative effects.

Background: Fabry disease is an X-linked lysosomal storage disorder due to a deficiency of α-galactosidase A (α-gal A) activity. Our goal was to correct the enzyme deficiency in Fabry patients by transferring the cDNA for α-gal A into their CD34+ hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPCs). Overexpression of α-gal A leads to secretion of the hydrolase; which can be taken up and used by uncorrected bystander cells.

Theoretical and simulated analyses of selective homonuclear dipolar recoupling sequences serve as primary tools for understanding and determining the robustness of these sequences under various conditions. In this article, we investigate the recently proposed first-order dipolar recoupling sequence known as MODIST (Modest Offset Difference Internuclear Selective Transfer). We evaluate the MODIST transfer efficiency, assessing its dependence on rf-field strengths and the number of simulated spins, extending up to 10 spins.

Fluoromethyl triflate (superfluoromethyl, SFM, FHCOSOCF) and fluoromethyl fluorosulfonate (magic fluoromethyl, MFM, FHCOSOF) are two easily synthesized, highly effective and non-ozone depleting fluoromethylation reagents. They are analogous to the well-known and widely used methylation reagents HCOSOCF and HCOSOF. Both SFM and MFM have been fully characterized by multinuclear NMR spectroscopy (H, C, O, F, S).
