The aim of this study was to optimize the integral valorization of orange peel waste by obtaining activated carbon after a process of pectin recovery in recycling of orange peel by transformation to value-added products of pectin extraction and activated carbon preparation. The study was supported by statistical analysis, and the significant factors and optimal conditions were obtained from the statistical analysis. Using a representative sample of orange peel waste, a yield of 29.37% pectin was recovered at the optimal operating conditions (phosphoric acid as the extraction agent, 95 °C as the impregnation temperature and a 2-hour extraction time). Activated carbon (AC) was prepared from the remaining solid residue. The conditions that improve the resulting material quality were HPO [0.6 M] used as the activating agent, an impregnation temperature of 95 °C, a carbonization temperature of 400 °C and 1 h of carbonization time. The obtained AC showed a sorption capacity of 2342.91 mg g, a value higher than that reported for commercial activated carbon. Using a model dye chemical, the sorption kinetics and thermodynamics of AC were found to follow a pseudo-second-order rate and the Freundlich models, respectively. Using the process conditions obtained in this study, it was possible to optimize the yield and also obtain good-quality products from valorization of orange peel.

Unlabelled: A huge amount of fruits and vegetables is being produced and processed in India and therefore the waste is also generated in high quantities. These wastes are good sources of vitamins, enzymes, cellulose, and many other essential compounds. The non-utilization of these bio-wastes leads to economic loss and also environmental problems.

The current research aims to determine the impact of orange peel dye (OPD), an eco-friendly addition, on the optical properties of biodegradable polymers. This study investigates the enhancement of optical properties in solid electrolytes based on chitosan (CS) and glycerol, with varying OPD concentrations. UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy revealed significantly enhanced UV-visible light absorption in the 200-500 nm region and effective UV light blocking.

Mandarin orange peel (MOP) is recognized for its traditional medicinal properties due to its high flavonoid content. This study aimed to analyze MOP harvested in Japan for specific bioactive compounds and to explore its health applications in dogs, including effects on gut microbiota and cognitive symptoms. Flavonoid content (particularly hesperidin and nobiletin) of MOP was measured.

The objective of this study was to conduct a comparative analysis of the performance of hydrogels prepared from two distinct raw materials and to identify the hydrogels with the optimal overall capacity for dry farming applications. Ten grafted polymer hydrogels were prepared from melon peel (MP) and orange peel (OP). A comparative analysis of the degree of swelling, water absorption time, pH range, reusability, and soil water retention and water-holding capacity of the two hydrogels revealed that the MP-based hydrogels exhibited superior performance in all evaluated parameters when compared to their OP-based counterparts.

The lack of sufficient flavour in perry represents a barrier to its further industrialization. This study aimed to investigate the effects of glutathione (GSH), β-glucosidase (Glu), and α-L-rhamnosidase (Rha) pretreatments, the fermentation temperature from 16 °C to 28 °C, and the aging time of 1, 2, and 3 years (PA1, PA2, and PA3) on the physicochemical properties, organic acids, and aroma profiles were investigated. The results demonstrated that the synergistic effect of Glu, Rha, and GSH was more effective than their individual or paired applications in enhancing the varietal aromas.
