Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a frequent endocrine and metabolic syndrome in reproductive-age women. Recently, emerging evidence has shown that gut microbiota is closely related to metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, obesity and PCOS. In the present study, we established dihydrotestosterone (DHT)-induced PCOS rats and used Illumina MiSeq sequencing (PE300) to examine the composition, diversity, and abundance of the gut microbiota in PCOS. We compared the effects of three PCOS treatments: Diane-35 (estrogen and progesterone), probiotics and berberine. The DHT-induced rats showed constant estrous cycles, the loss of mature ovarian follicles, insulin resistance and obesity. The reproductive and metabolic functions in the PCOS rats were improved by treatment with Diane-35 and probiotics. Diane-35 and probiotics could restore the diversity of the gut microbiota, and the recovery of gut microbiota disorders improved the reproductive function in PCOS-like rats. However, berberine drastically reduced the species diversity and amount of gut microbiota and showed no improvement in PCOS. The findings of this study will help us to better understand the influence of the gut microbiota in the metabolic and reproductive alterations in PCOS as well as suggest opportunities for future personal dietary guidance for PCOS.

Objective: Helicobacter pylori is known for colonizing the gastric mucosa and instigating severe upper gastrointestinal diseases such as gastritis, gastroduodenal ulcers, and gastric cancer. To date, there is no data available on the oral cavity as transmission site, whether H. pylori can survive in the oral cavity or in human saliva.

Background: To investigate the effects of colonoscopic administration of probiotics on patients with irritable bowel syndrome with predominant diarrhea (IBS-D) by a single-center, randomized-controlled trial.

Methods: Consecutive outpatients at the First Affiliated Hospital of Fujian Medical University who met the Rome IV diagnostic criteria for IBS-D (n = 22) and healthy subjects (n = 10) from January 2017 to January 2018 were enrolled. IBS-D patients were randomly divided into either the probiotics or the placebo group.

The association of gut microbiota, immunocyte dynamics, and protein-protein ratios with tuberculosis susceptibility: a Mendelian randomization analysis.

This study focused on the relationships among gut microbiota, plasma protein ratios, and tuberculosis. Given the unclear causal relationship between gut microbiota and tuberculosis and the scarcity of research on relevant plasma protein ratios in tuberculosis, Mendelian randomization analysis (MR) was employed for in-depth exploration. By analyzing the GWAS data of individuals with European ancestry (the FinnGen dataset included 409,568 controls and 2613 cases), using the two-sample MR method, we focused on evaluating the impact of immunocyte-mediated gut microbiota on tuberculosis and the associations between 2821 plasma protein-to-protein ratios and tuberculosis.

Aims: Supplementing Lactobacillus alongside antibiotic treatment was a curative strategy to modulate gut microbiota and alleviate antibiotic-associated dysbiosis. But the lactobacilli that are used as probiotics are sensitive or have a low level of resistance to antibiotics, so they usually cannot achieve their beneficial effect, since they are killed by the applied antibiotics. This work aimed to develop the highly resistant Lactiplantibacillus plantarum subsp.
