The present study aimed to investigate in vitro DNA transfection efficiency of three novel chitosan derivatives: thiolated trimethyl chitosan (TMC-Cys), methylated 4-N,N dimethyl aminobenzyl N,O carboxymethyl chitosan(MABCC) and thiolated trimethyl aminobenzyl chitosan(MABC-Cys). After polymer synthesis and characterization, nanoparticles were prepared using these polymers and their size, zeta potential and DNA condensing ability were measured. After that, cytotoxicity and transfection efficiency of nanocomplexes were carried out in three different cells. The results showed that all polymers could condense DNA plasmid strongly from N/P 2 and nanocomplexes had eligible sizes and zeta potentials. Moreover, the nanocomplexes had negligible cytotoxicity and MABC-Cys was the most effective vehicle for gene delivery in HEK-293T cells. In the two other cell lines, SKOV-3 and MCF-7, TMC-Cys exhibited the highest transfection efficiency. This study indicated that chemical structure of these novel chitosan derivatives in the interaction with the cell type can lead to successful gene delivery.

To design a multifunctional nanozyme hydrogel with antibacterial, photo-responsive nitric oxide-releasing, and antioxidative properties for promoting the healing of infected wounds. We first developed ultra-small silver nanoparticles (NPs)-decorated sodium nitroprusside-doped Prussian blue (SNPB) NPs, referred to as SNPB@Ag NPs, which served as a multifunctional nanozyme. Subsequently, this nanozyme, together with geniposide (GE), was incorporated into a thermo-sensitive hydrogel, formulated from Poloxamer 407 and carboxymethyl chitosan, creating a novel antibacterial wound dressing designated as GE/SNPB@Ag hydrogel.

Background/objectives: Crickets are recognized as an alternative source of chitosan. This study aimed to assess the potential of cricket-derived chitosan as a natural source to develop chitosan nanoparticles (CNPs).
Methods: Chitosan were isolated from different cricket species, including , , and .

Background: Lipid vesicles, especially those utilizing biocompatible materials like chitosan (CHIT), hold significant promise for enhancing the stability and release characteristics of drugs such as indomethacin (IND), effectively overcoming the drawbacks associated with conventional drug formulations.
Objectives: This study seeks to develop and characterize novel lipid vesicles composed of phosphatidylcholine and CHIT that encapsulate indomethacin (IND-ves), as well as to evaluate their in vitro hemocompatibility.
Methods: The systems encapsulating IND were prepared using a molecular droplet self-assembly technique, involving the dissolution of lipids, cholesterol, and indomethacin in ethanol, followed by sonication and the gradual incorporation of a CHIT solution to form stable vesicular structures.

Designing new engineered materials derived from waste is essential for effective environmental remediation and reducing anthropogenic pollution in our economy. This study introduces an innovative method for remediating metal-contaminated water, using two distinct waste types: one biowaste (eggshell) and one industrial waste (fly ash). We synthesized three novel, cost-effective nanoadsorbent types, including two new tertiary composites and two biopolymer-based composites (specifically k-carrageenan and chitosan), which targeted chromium removal from aqueous solutions.

Currently, there is a rush to develop green polymeric films such as biodegradable chitosan (CH) films to control and prevent plastic pollution from degrading the environment. This study reports a novel and sustainable green approach to the development of CH films using lemon juice (LJ) and lemon peel extract (LPE), the latter to dilute the LJ. The LPE was also utilized for the synthesis of ZnFeO nanoparticles (NPs), adding to this work's novelty.
