An annotated list of Orthoptera species collected in carrion traps in a Quercus forest was compiled. Marcelonemobius mutum n. gen. et n. sp. (Trigonidiidae; Nemobiinae) is described. Four sites were chosen in an altitudinal gradient: 2,100, 2,300, 2,500 and 2,700 m. and monthly captures between September 2013 to August 2014. At each site, three carrion traps were placed separated by 100 m. A data logger situated at each altitude recorded temperature and humidity data. 175 individuals were registered belonging to seven families, 13 genera, and 15 species.

Facultative scavenging can be observed across a large range of carnivorous mammals but is an uncommon behavioural trait in cheetahs (). Very few incidents of cheetahs scavenging have been reported, with no explanation given as to why it may occur. In this paper, we provide three more observations of cheetahs scavenging between 2019 and 2023 in three different protected areas in South Africa and Malawi.

Ungulates serve as the primary carrion source for facultative scavengers in European ecosystems. In the absence of large carnivores, such as wolves (), human hunting leftovers are the main source of carrion for these scavengers. Additionally, wild boars () are heavily culled in many ecosystems and are both a significant prey species for wolves as well as a key scavenger.

Wildlife forensic science is a growing research field globally with application in criminal cases of illegal hunting requiring an estimate of time of death based on insect fauna. The techniques and procedures of forensic entomology acquired over the last 40 years, used in legal cases relating to human remains, can be adapted to decomposing wildlife. Research on carrion utilising the rate of development of insect immatures provides a biological clock from which a minimum post-mortem interval (minPMI) can be derived.
