Abteilung Innere Medizin, Kleintierklinik Ettlingen, Tierärztliche Klinik für Chirurgie, Praxis für Kleintiere, Ettlingen.

Objective: The aim of this retrospective study was to decribe the intoxication with tremorgenic mycotoxins subsequent to the ingestion of walnuts in a large population of dogs and the evaluation of the development of the clinical signs under the initiated treatment.

Material And Methods: The study included 54 dogs exhibiting signs of tremor, hyperesthesia, hyperthermia and ataxia, in particular a few hours following observed ingestion of walnuts or its justified suspicion.

Results: The patients were presented to the clinic mostly during winter and spring.

Analytical determination of tryptoquialanines A and B: Ensuring the quality and safety of orange juices.

Food Res Int

December 2023

Instituto de Química, Universidade Estadual de Campinas (UNICAMP), PO Box 6154, 13083-970 Campinas, SP, Brazil. Electronic address:

Although orange juice is a popular beverage worldwide, fruit distribution, storage, and processing can facilitate fungal infection by Penicillium digitatum; leading to the production of tremorgenic alkaloids, specifically tryptoquialanines A (TA) and B (TB). An Analytical method was developed and validated based on QuEChERS and LC-MS/MS analysis to determine the levels of TA and TB in fresh, industrial, and homemade orange juices. Excellent linearity was observed in the method over a high range of 1-1000 μg/kg and low range of 1-75 μg/kg with R ≥ 0.

Functional ultrasound (fUS), an emerging hemodynamic-based functional neuroimaging technique, is especially suited to probe brain activity and primarily used in animal models. Increasing use of pharmacological models for essential tremor extends new research to the utilization of fUS imaging in such models. Harmaline-induced tremor is an easily provoked model for the development of new therapies for essential tremor (ET).

Tremorgenic mycotoxicosis in cattle, caused by .

Vet Med (Praha)

September 2022

Department of Anatomy and Comparative Pathology and Toxicology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Córdoba, Córdoba, Spain.

is a fungus that mainly parasitises , generating a structure denominated sclerotium, in which indole-diterpenoid alkaloids are isolated. Its action mechanism is related to the inhibition of the gamma-aminobutyric acid receptor. It basically affects bovines, triggering the tremorgenic syndrome, the prevalence of this intoxication being relatively low in Europe.

Nicotine induces kinetic tremor, which resembles pharmacological features of essential tremors, via activating the inferior olive (IO) neurons. Since nicotine is known to enhance dopamine release by stimulating α4β2 and/or α6 nACh receptors, we examined the effects of various dopamine receptor ligands on nicotine-induced tremor to clarify the role of the dopaminergic system in modulating nicotine tremor. A tremorgenic dose of nicotine increased the dopamine level in the pons and medulla oblongata (P/MO), and the levels of dopamine metabolites in the hippocampus, P/MO, and striatum.
