  • - The study assessed how effective ceftazidime-avibactam is alone and in combination with meropenem against 11 multi-drug resistant bacteria, particularly those with oxacillinases.
  • - Results showed that ceftazidime-avibactam worked really well, especially when used with meropenem, against these resistant strains.
  • - The disk approximation method used in the study effectively identified synergistic interactions in the treatment of infections.

Article Abstract

Susceptibility of ceftazidime-avibactam and synergy with meropenem were investigated using disk approximation and time-kill assays against 11 multiresistant isolates harboring oxacillinases and 5 isolates carrying Ceftazidime-avibactam was very active and synergistic with meropenem against multiresistant isolates. On the other hand, only the isolates coharboring and displayed synergy. The disk approximation technique presented good sensitivity for synergism in infection.

Multibody interactions between protein inclusions in the pointlike curvature model for tense and tensionless membranes.

Université Paris Cité, CNRS, Laboratoire Matière et Systèmes Complexes (MSC), 75013, Paris, France.

The pointlike curvature constraint (PCC) model and the disk detachment angle (DDA) model for the deformation-mediated interaction of conical integral protein inclusions in biomembranes are compared in the small deformation regime. Given the radius of membrane proteins, which is comparable to the membrane thickness, it is not obvious which of the two models should be considered the most adequate. For two proteins in a tensionless membranes, the PCC and DDA models coincide at the leading-order in their separation but differ at the next order.

Article Synopsis
  • The study looked at a specific gene from the reproductive parts of Bali cattle that had problems breeding, using 16 cattle for the tests.
  • Researchers took samples and tested them to find out which bacteria were present, how they reacted to different antibiotics, and whether they had a certain gene.
  • They found three types of bacteria that were mostly resistant to common antibiotics and discovered that these bacteria were closely related to some bacteria found in humans.

An oscillating elliptical disk in free space has a uniform surface velocity distribution and is therefore a rigid sound radiator. The radiated sound also represents that scattered from a stationary disk in the presence of a normal plane wave. Using the Fourier (Hankel) Green's function in cylindrical coordinates, together with the monopole Kirchhoff-Helmholtz boundary integral, rigorous analytical formulas are derived for calculating the surface pressure distribution, radiation impedance, on-axis pressure, and, directivity pattern of an elliptical open-back disk in free space, and these are plotted over a range of normalized frequencies.

Removing 65 Years of Approximation in Rotating Ring Disk Electrode Theory with Physics-Informed Neural Networks.

Department of Chemistry, Physical and Theoretical Chemistry Laboratory, University of Oxford, South Parks Road, Oxford OX1 3QZ, Great Britain.

The rotating Ring Disk Electrode (RRDE), since its introduction in 1959 by Frumkin and Nekrasov, has become indispensable with diverse applications in electrochemistry, catalysis, and material science. The collection efficiency () is an important parameter extracted from the ring and disk currents of the RRDE, providing valuable information about reaction mechanism, kinetics, and pathways. The theoretical prediction of is a challenging task: requiring solution of the complete convective diffusion mass transport equation with complex velocity profiles.
