A polymeric ionic liquid (PIL) was synthesized from a small-molecule one (MIL, the monomer), and they were used as cathode interlayers in organic solar cells. Compared with the MIL, the PIL can form a more uniform film for full coverage of an active layer and efficient cathode modification, resulting in higher device efficiency and reproducibility.

The remediation of oil-contaminated soil poses significant environmental challenges, often necessitating innovative approaches for effective and sustainable solutions. This study focuses on the synthesis, characterisation, and application of biodegradable capsules loaded with surfactant for enhanced oil remediation of a clean sand. By controlling the release properties of capsules, the research aims to overcome the limitations of conventional surfactant-based remediation methods, such as rapid washout and reduced efficacy over time.

Ionic Strength-Induced Compartmentalization for Nanogel-in-Microgel Colloids.

Small

DWI-Leibniz Institute for Interactive Materials e.V., RWTH Aachen University, Forckenbeckstr. 50, 52074, Aachen, Germany.

Compartmentalization is crucial for control over complex biological cascade reactions. In microgels, the formation of discrete compartments allows for simultaneous uptake and orthogonal release of physicochemically distinct drugs, among others. However, many state-of-the-art approaches yielding compartmentalized microgels require the use of specific, though not always biocompatible, components and temperatures well above the physiological range, which may damage possible biological cargo.

Efficient removal of TcO from radioactive effluents while recovering drinking water remains a challenge. Herein, an excellent ReO (a nonradioactive surrogate of TcO ) scavenger is presented through covalently bonding imidazolium poly(ionic liquids) polymers with an ionic porous aromatic framework (iPAF), namely iPAF-P67, following an adsorption-site density-addition strategy. It shows rapid sorption kinetics, high uptake capacity, and exceptional selectivity toward ReO .

Isostructured lanthanide-Brønsted acidic ionic liquid coordination polymers, {[Ln(CHNO)(HO)]Cl} (LnIMDC(HO), Ln = Eu, Gd, or Tb, CHNO = [IMDC]) and {[EuTb(CHNO)(HO)]Cl} (EuTbIMDC(HO))), have been synthesized using 1,3-bis(carboxymethyl) imidazolium chloride ([HIMDC]Cl) as linkers. LnIMDC(HO) (Ln = Eu or Tb) and EuTbIMDC(HO) exhibit good temperature sensing performance over a wide temperature range with maximum sensitivities of 2.73%·K (392 K) and 2.

Single-molecule resolution of the conformation of polymers and dendrimers with solid-state nanopores.

Polymers and dendrimers are macromolecules, possessing unique and intriguing characteristics, that are widely applied in self-assembled functional materials, green catalysis, drug delivery and sensing devices. Traditional approaches for the structural characterization of polymers and dendrimers involve DLS, GPC, NMR, IR and TG, which provide their physiochemical features and ensemble information, whereas their unimolecular conformation and dispersion also are key features allowing to understand their transporting profile in confined ionic nanochannels. This work demonstrates the nanopore approach for the determination of charged homopolymers, neutral block copolymer and dendrimers under distinct bias potentials and pH conditions.
