AI Article Synopsis

  • The text discusses a unique and challenging case of neurological symptoms related to acute intermittent porphyria, which is further complicated by rhabdomyolysis.
  • It emphasizes important diagnostic criteria to help identify this specific variant of the disease.
  • Additionally, the authors compare this condition with other similar diseases to differentiate and clarify the diagnosis.

Article Abstract

The authors describe a rare and diagnostically difficult variant of neurological symptoms of acute intermittent porphyria complicated by rhabdomyolysis. Diagnostic criteria of the disease are highlighted. A differential diagnosis with diseases with similar clinical manifestation was made.

Disturbance in sleep and activity rhythms are significant health risks associated with alcohol use during adolescence. Many investigators support the theory of a reciprocal relationship between disrupted circadian rhythms, sleep patterns, and alcohol usage. However, in human studies it is difficult to disentangle other factors (i.

This is a case of a young, 20-year-old, male Navy recruit who was admitted to our healthcare facility with intermittent atypical chest pain and limiting exertional symptoms and was diagnosed with myocardial bridging (MB) as the most likely etiology of his chest after the complete cardiac workup, leading to his career limitations due to potential risks. Our patient presented with atypical chest pain and limiting exertional symptoms. Chest pain was non-radiating.

Unbalanced redox homeostasis leads to the production of reactive oxygen species and exacerbates inflammatory bowel disease. To investigate the role of the transcription factor Nrf2, a major antioxidative stress sensor, in intestinal epithelial cells (IECs), we generated IEC-specific Nrf2 gene knock-in mice (Nrf2-vRes), which express Nrf2 only in IECs, using the cre/loxp system. Colitis was induced in wild-type (WT) mice, whole-body Nrf2-knockout (Nrf2-KO) mice, and Nrf2-vRes mice by administering dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) for 1 week (acute model) or intermittently for 5 weeks (chronic model).

Objectives: Brachial artery injury due to displaced supracondylar fracture (SC) of the humerus in children may present with pink pulseless hand (PPH), denoting a well perfused hand without radial pulse, or acute hand ischemia. Some reports state that brachial artery reconstruction is not necessary in children with persisting PPH, but the reports on long-term consequences such as intermittent claudications, growth retardation and ischemic contracture in children with pulseless hand are scarce and often misinterpreted. The objective of our analysis was to assess the long-term outcomes of children with brachial artery injury associated with SC fracture.
