Treatment of N-chlorodimethylamine with sodium azide in dichloromethane does not lead to N-azidodimethylamine, as thought for more than 50 years. Instead, surprisingly, (azidomethyl)dimethylamine is generated with good reproducibility. A plausible reaction mechanism to explain the formation of this product is presented. The reaction of lithium dibenzylhydrazide with tosyl azide does not result in the creation of an N-azidoamine, which can be detected by IR spectroscopy at ambient temperature, as it was claimed previously. Additional experiments with diazo group transfer to lithium hydrazides show that intermediate N-azidoamines are very short-lived or their formation is bypassed by direct generation of 1,1-diazenes via synchronous cleavage of two N-N bonds.

Human neutrophils are abundant, short-lived leukocytes that turn over at a rate of approximately 1011 cells/day via a constitutive apoptosis program. Certain growth factors, inflammatory mediators and infectious agents can delay apoptosis or induce neutrophils to die by other mechanisms. Nonetheless, a large body of data demonstrates that apoptosis of untreated neutrophils typically ensues within 24 hours of cell isolation and in vitro culture.

Using mouse polyomavirus (MuPyV), we found that CD4 T cell depletion before infection results in short-lived plasma cells secreting low-avidity antiviral IgG with limited BCR diversity and weak virus-neutralizing ability. CD4 T cell deficiency during persistent infection incurs a shift from a T-dependent (TD) to T-independent (TI) Ab response, resembling the pre-existing TI Ab response.

The Morse function is the simplest anharmonic approximation of the potential of a diatomic molecule, for which the vibrational Schrödinger equation could be solved almost precisely. Despite its crudeness, the Morse function has been widely used in solving various problems in molecular spectroscopy. In recent years, special attention was paid to the existence of two Morse approximations for the electronic terms U(r) of diatomic molecules, M1(r) and M2(r), which differ by the selection of primary fitting parameters and satisfactorily reproduce different parts of U(r).
