Coccidioidomycosis is a systemic fungal infection that primarily affects the lungs in mammals. It is endemic to certain areas of the Americas. In Brazil, the disease occurs exclusively in the Northeast of the country, and the only etiological agent described is Coccidioides posadasii, typically found in the soil of arid regions with low rainfall.

(1) Background: Fibrotic contracture of the canine infraspinatus muscle (FCIM) is considered an uncommon musculotendinous condition mainly affecting hunting dogs. After an acute onset of a painful non-weight-bearing lameness over a period of one to four weeks, a characteristic circumducted gait is developed in the affected thoracic limb. (2) Methods: Eight client-owned dogs of varying breeds, both sexes, aged 4-9 years old, and weighing 14-26 kg participated in the study.

Lyme disease progresses through three distinct clinical phases: early localized, early disseminated, and late disseminated. Lyme arthritis is characterized by attacks of joint swelling lasting for weeks to months, potentially causing permanent joint damage in late disseminated disease. Our case focuses on a 63-year-old, obese, type 2 diabetic, wheelchair-bound, Caucasian male with severe bilateral knee pain.

Periaqueductal gray (PAG), an integration center for neuronal signals, is located in the midbrain and regulates multiple physiological and pathological behaviors, including pain, defensive and aggressive behaviors, anxiety and depression, cardiovascular response, respiration, and sleep-wake behaviors. Due to the different neuroanatomical connections and functional characteristics of the four functional columns of PAG, different subregions of PAG synergistically regulate various instinctual behaviors. In the current review, we summarized the role and possible neurobiological mechanism of different subregions of PAG in the regulation of pain, defensive and aggressive behaviors, anxiety, and depression from the perspective of the up-down neuronal circuits of PAG.
