Objective: In order to obtain more decision information from Digital Radiography(DR) images, an improved image enhancement algorithm is proposed based on the algorithm of Gauss-Laplacian pyramid.

Methods: The original algorithm is improved on the basis of the human visual characteristics and better enhancements, the low frequency components of the image is histogram equalized to make the image gray scale more balanced, and the high frequency component is enhanced by a hierarchical exponential enhancement to make the details of the image clearer.

Results: The improved algorithm improves the contrast of DR images in chest, pelvic and spine, and makes the image more layered and obtains good image enhancement effect.

Conclusions: The results show that the improved algorithm is superior to the traditional algorithm in terms of image enhancement.

Background: Cervical cancer remains a significant challenge in developing countries, with many patients diagnosed at advanced stages. The clinical staging of cervical cancer is guided by the International Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FIGO) guidelines, while computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offer valuable supplemental information. This study aimed to evaluate the initial clinical and imaging stages of cervical cancer and to assess the agreement between these staging methods.

Retinoblastoma in Ethiopian Children: Imaging Findings and Staging.

Ethiop J Health Sci

October 2024

Radiologists, Addis Ababa University, College of Health Sciences, Medical Faculty, Department of Radiology, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Background: Retinoblastoma is the most prevalent intraocular retinal malignancy in children worldwide. Accurate staging is critical for treatment planning and relies heavily on radiologic imaging and clinical findings. This study aims to evaluate imaging patterns and staging of retinoblastoma in children at Tikur Anbessa Specialized Hospital (TASH).

Significance: The eye can be used as a potential monitoring window for screening, diagnosis, and monitoring of neurological diseases. Alzheimer's disease (AD) and vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) are common causes of cognitive impairment and may share many similarities in ocular signs. Multimodal ophthalmic imaging is a technology to quantify pupillary light reaction, retinal reflectance spectrum, and hemodynamics.

Small cell lung carcinoma metastatic to the stomach: Commonly overlooked, limited treatment options.

World J Gastroenterol

December 2024

Diagnostic and Molecular Pathology, The Ottawa Hospital and University of Ottawa, Ottawa K1H 8L6, Ontario, Canada.

Small cell lung carcinoma metastatic to the stomach, whether synchronous or metachronous, is a rare phenomenon accounting for < 0.5% of lung cancers. Hence it can be overlooked by clinicians resulting in delayed diagnosis.

Background: Trichofolliculoma (TF) is a rare condition, and its imaging features have been inadequately studied, leading to frequent misdiagnoses in clinical practice.

Objective: The aim of our study was to investigate the very high frequency (VHF) ultrasound characteristics of TF, identify features that could assist in the differential diagnosis of TF versus other benign and malignant lesions.

Methods: We collected clinical data from 24 patients with histologically confirmed TF between February 2019 and June 2024.
