The present study aimed to evaluate the antibacterial and modulatory activity of the methyl extract in isolation or in combination with aminoglycoside antibiotics, using the microdilution method. The methyl extract was used in isolation in the antibacterial assays and in combination with antibiotics in the modulation assays. All tests were performed in triplicates. The methyl extract presented both antibacterial and antibiotic-modulatory effects in isolation and in association with aminoglycosides. The extract activity depends on the bacterial strain and may be associated with the presence of tannins and flavonols. However, further studies are required to characterize the potential for the development of new drugs against multiresistant bacteria.

Background: Approximately 20%-50 % of individuals with autoimmune encephalitis (AE) demonstrate suboptimal responses to first-line therapies, leading to persistent neurological deficits and the need for second-line interventions. Although rituximab has shown potential as an alternative treatment in AE, the existing evidence remains insufficient. This study systematically evaluated and meta-analyzed the efficacy of rituximab in AE patients who either failed or exhibited inadequate responses to first-line treatments, aiming to refine and optimize therapeutic strategies for AE.

Background: The risk of developing advanced neoplasia (AN; colorectal cancer and/or high-grade dysplasia) in ulcerative colitis (UC) patients with a low-grade dysplasia (LGD) lesion is variable and difficult to predict. This is a major challenge for effective clinical management.
Objective: We aimed to provide accurate AN risk stratification in UC patients with LGD.

Cultivated Chinese cordyceps, an optimal substitute for the endangered wild resource, has recently been produced on a large scale. This work sought to explore the structural features and immunomodulatory activity of a novel low-molecular-weight polysaccharide (CSP1a, 15.7 kDa) isolated from cultivated Chinese cordyceps.

The mushroom Pleurotus ostreatus is widely produced in Brazil and its stipes are discarded before commercialization. In the present study, this agricultural fungal waste (mushroom stipes), was analyzed by preparing an aqueous extract and obtaining the polysaccharides by ethanol precipitation (POS-extract). The fraction presented 37 % of carbohydrates and small amounts of proteins and phenolic compounds.

Introduction: With high incidence and mortality rates, lung cancer is now one of the most common cancers in the world. The 5-year survival rate of lung cancer patients is very low, and predicting the prognosis of lung cancer patients and using it to develop treatment strategies and interventions is important for prolonging the survival time of patients. Folate metabolism involves various aspects such as methylation of DNA, RNA, proteins, lipids, etc.
