The aim of the present study is to report the demographic and clinical characteristics of all jaw cysts diagnosed in a single Oral Pathology Department. 5294 cases of jaw cysts diagnosed during a 38-year period were retrospectively collected and classified according to the latest classification of Head and Neck Tumors of the World Health Organization. The patients' gender and age, as well as the main clinical features of the cysts were retrieved from biopsy report forms. Jaw cysts were more common in male patients, with a male to female ratio of 1.6:1. Most patients were in the 4th-6th decade of life, with a mean age of 42.3 ± 16.1 years. There was no jaw predilection and the majority of lesions were more commonly encountered in the anterior region of the maxilla, followed by the molar region of the mandible. The most common jaw cyst was radicular cyst followed by dentigerous cyst, residual cyst and odontogenic keratocyst. The majority of jaw cysts are of inflammatory origin and represent a sequale of pulp necrosis. However, other type of jaw cysts may also be found.

Once a pathological fracture occurs, treatment time and economic costs increase, and doctors face difficulty in handling it. Objectives: This study aims to evaluate the changes in the mandibular canal following the treatment of large odontogenic keratocysts through decompression and curettage, providing a theoretical basis for sequential treatment.

Background: Considering the significant participation of the microenvironment in the local aggressiveness of odontogenic keratocysts, this study aims to evaluate the expression of ADAMTS-1 and its substrates, versican, aggrecan and brevican in this locally invasive odontogenic cyst.
Methods: Immunohistochemistry and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were conducted on 30 cases of odontogenic keratocysts (OKCs) and 20 dental follicles (DFs).
Results: The immunohistochemical expression of these proteins was predominantly cytoplasmic and granular across all samples.

The surgical ciliated cyst is a newly added entity under the cysts of the jaws in the World Health Organization (WHO) Classification of Head and Neck Tumours (2022). It is preceded by a prior surgery to the jaw many years before its diagnosis. A 53-year-old Chinese female, who had undergone cleft lip and palate repair followed by orthognathic surgery before the age of 20, was referred for management of an incidentally found cyst in the left maxilla.
