  • Prevention strategies include proper catheter sanitation, managing constipation, and removing unnecessary catheters promptly.

Article Abstract

Unlabelled: We present the case of an elderly woman with long-term indwelling urinary catheter use whose urine turned purple due to a urinary tract infection.

Learning Points: Purple urine bag syndrome is secondary to urinary tract infections with indigo- and indirubin-producing bacteria and affects typically institutionalized and chronically catheterized patients., and are the main culprit. It may reflect only asymptomatic bacteriuria and therefore the need for antibiotic treatment must be carefully addressed and individualized.Catheter sanitation, constipation avoidance and prompt removal of unnecessary catheters are key to prevention.

Most conventional nanozymes have poor specificity and low activity, and designing high-performance nanozymes remains a challenge. In contrast, single-atom nanozymes have high atom utilization and high reactivity. Here, we prepared Cu single-atom nanozymes (Cu-NC) with excellent peroxidase-like activity by high-temperature pyrolysis using Cu as a transition metal source.

Article Synopsis
  • Primary atopic disorders (PAD) are rare genetic conditions caused by specific gene variants that affect skin and immune function, making diagnosis challenging among common allergic disease cases.
  • Identifying PAD requires recognizing clinical red flags like family history and unusual infections, as conventional lab tests are inadequate for definitive diagnosis.
  • Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) enhances diagnostic efficiency and accuracy, but requires careful interpretation and collaboration among specialists to effectively manage PAD cases.
