Background: The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) for neonatal mortality has identified its reduction as one of the main targets to be achieved by 2030. We provide a descriptive report on neonatal outcomes from the only neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in Guinea.
Methods: Data collection took place between November 2004 and May 2005 at the NICU of the Institute of Child Health in the capital, Conakry. A descriptive summary of the neonatal, maternal and intrapartum characteristics is reported.
Results: A total of 294 neonates were admitted to the NICU incubators during the study period, transferred either from hospitals (48%) or directly from their homes (52%). The most common reasons for admission were foetal distress (37.1%) and maternal-foetal infections (35.4%). Among 270 neonates with known outcome, the overall mortality among the admitted children remained high at 20.7% (56/270),with a large proportion of the deaths (71.4%, 40/56) occurring within 7 d of their admission. The mortality rate was 23.7% (31/131) among the neonates who were admitted to our NICU after home birth and 17.9% (25/139) among those who were transferred from hospitals (OR: 1.41, 95% CI: 0.75-2.67).
Conclusion: Almost one in every five neonates who were admitted to the NICU incubator died during the study period. More hospitals equipped with NICU facilities are urgently required if Guinea is to achieve the SDG target for neonatal mortality.

Background: Anterior shoulder instability with glenoid bone loss presents a challenge in orthopedic surgery. The Latarjet and iliac crest bone graft transfer (ICBGT) procedures are commonly employed for its management, but direct comparative evidence is insufficient.
Methods: Following PRISMA guidelines, a comprehensive search of PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Web of Science was conducted.

Background: Pregnancy-associated atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome (aHUS) is a form of thrombotic microangiopathy (TMA) caused by uncontrolled activation of the complement system during pregnancy or the postpartum period. In the intensive care unit, aHUS must be differentiated from sepsis-related multiple organ dysfunction, thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (TTP), hemolysis, elevated liver enzymes, and low platelet (HELLP) syndrome. Early recognition of aHUS is critical for effective treatment and improved prognosis.

Objective: To develop a predictive tool in the form of a Nomogram based on the Cox regression model, which incorporates the impact of the length of treatment cycles on the outcome of live birth, to evaluate the probability of infertile couples having a live birth after one or more complete cycles of In Vitro Fertilization (IVF), and to provide patients with a risk assessment that is easy to understand and visualize.
Methods: A retrospective study for establishing a prediction model was conducted in the reproductive center of Shenzhen Zhongshan Obstetrics & Gynecology Hospital (formerly Shenzhen Zhongshan Urology Hospital). A total of 4413 patients who completed ovarian stimulation treatment and reached the trigger were involved.

Background: Circular (circ)RNAs have emerged as crucial contributors to cancer progression. Nonetheless, the expression regulation, biological functions, and underlying mechanisms of circRNAs in mediating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression remain insufficiently elucidated.
Methods: We identified circUCK2(2,3) through circRNA sequencing, RT-PCR, and Sanger sequencing.

Purpose: To assess the efficacy of clinical exome sequencing (CES) in individuals involved in assisted reproductive technology (ART) or sperm donor programs, with a specific focus on its impact on clinical decision-making.
Methods: A total of 3991 individuals without a family history of genetic disorders underwent CES targeting 5595 genes at a reproductive center between December 2022 and April 2024. The cohort comprised 217 sperm donors, 232 female recipients, and 1771 couples (3542 patients) undergoing ART with their own gametes.
